CIRQUE DU SOLEIL Is Coming To Texas With Two Big Top Productions

CIRQUE DU SOLEIL Is Coming To Texas With Two Big Top ProductionsCirque du Soleil is excited to be coming to Texas this winter with two different Big Top productions. From January 10 - February 3, Houston audiences are invited under a redesigned white-and-gold Big Top at Sam Houston Race Park to escape to an imaginary Mexico with LUZIA - the production's first run in Texas. From January 23 - February 17, 2019, Dallas audiences will get to discover Amaluna, a celebration of love and a tribute to the work and voice of women - under the trademark blue-and-yellow Big Top at Lone Star Park.

Tickets for Dallas performances of Amaluna and Houston performances of LUZIA are now on sale online at cirquedusoleil.com. Tickets start at $45.

Written and directed by Tony Award-winning director Diane Paulus, Amaluna invites the audience to a mysterious island governed by Goddesses and guided by the cycles of the moon. Their queen, Prospera, directs her daughter's coming-of-age ceremony in a rite that honors femininity, renewal, rebirth and balance which marks the passing of these insights and values from one generation to the next. In the wake of a storm caused by Prospera, a group of young men lands on the island, triggering an epic, emotional story of love between Prospera's daughter and a brave young suitor. But theirs is a love that will be put to the test. The couple must face numerous demanding trials and overcome daunting setbacks before they can achieve mutual trust, faith and harmony.

Amaluna is the first Cirque du Soleil show with a cast comprised of mostly women and a complete female band. Director Diane Paulus, winner of a 2013 Tony Award and named as one of Time Magazine's 100 Most Influential People of 2014, says: "I didn't want to build a 'women's agenda' show. I wanted to create a show with women at the center of it, something that had a hidden story that featured women as the heroines."

Amaluna will be performing in Dallas from January 23 - February 17, 2019 at Lone Star Park. For more information, visit cirquedusoleil.com/amaluna.

In a series of grand visual surprises and breathtaking acrobatic performances, LUZIA takes audiences on a surrealistic journey through an imaginary Mexico - a sumptuous world suspended between dreams and reality. Smoothly passing from an old movie set to the ocean to a smoky dance hall or an arid desert, LUZIA cleverly brings to the stage multiple places, faces and sounds of Mexico taken from both tradition and modernity. Rich in awe-inspiring moments, LUZIA enchants by incorporating rain into acrobatic and artistic scenes - a first for a Cirque du Soleil touring production.

With mesmerizing and refreshing acrobatic performances, LUZIA brings traditional and contemporary circus disciplines to a whole new level. Cyr Wheel artists perform the unprecedented feat of rolling and spinning under the rain, while an aerialist suspended from a Trapeze flies and twirls through pouring showers. Hoop Diving is taken onto gigantic treadmills, expanding exponentially the speed and amount of daring leaps executed. Jaw-dropping highlights include a male contortionist skillfully twisting his body in the world's most unimaginable positions, a powerful Aerial Straps specialist defying the laws of gravity at the center of a cenote (natural sinkhole), a juggler tossing seven pins at breakneck speed, and two football (soccer) freestylers deftly mixing street dance with mind-blowing ball manipulation.
