BAYOU CITY CONCERT MUSICALS continues its popular cabaret series with Jerome Kern in Hollywood, on three consecutive Monday nights in February, beginning tonight, February 4, and continuing on February 11 and February 18 at 7:30 p.m. The evening of song will again be presented at the Performance Centre of the Ensemble Theatre, 3535 Main between Holman and Berry Street, in the heart of Midtown. (Entrance to The Centre is located on the corner of Fannin and Berry directly behind the theatre and has convenient free parking, courtesy of the Houston Community College.)

Already a major figure in American music as the composer of Broadway musicals culminating in his masterpiece SHOW BOAT, written with lyricist Oscar Hammerstein II, Jerome Kern moved his talents to Hollywood in 1935. It didn't take him long to feel right at home. He and lyricist Dorothy Fields won the 1936 Academy Award for best song with The Way You Look Tonight from the movie SWING TIME. Kern returned to Broadway only once, in 1939, with VERY WARM IN MAY, a less-than-successful show that included one of his greatest songs, All The Things You Are. Movies were the medium for his biggest hits, including A Fine Romance, Lovely to Look At, Long Ago and Far Away, and The Last Time I Saw Paris, for which he won his second Academy Award in 1941.

BCCM's cabaret evening will feature Kerns' music from the time he moved to Hollywood in 1935 to his death in 1945 and will be sung by Houston's most talented musical theatre performers. One of the most popular features of the BCCM cabaret evening is BCCM Artistic Director Paul Hope's commentary about the life of the composer and the history of his music.

Tickets are $25.00 and are available by calling 713-465-6484 or online at bayoucityconcertmusicals.org. Tickets may also be purchased at the door, but reservations are recommended.
