Apollo Chamber Players to Continue Concert Season with EX NIHILO: OUT OF NOTHING

On January 7, 2017, Apollo Chamber Players takes its audience on a musical journey, EX NIHILO: OUT OF NOTHING, to explore creation myths that connect all cultures of the world, representing our shared humanity and creative inquisitiveness about the genesis of life.

It is a universal question, "Where did we come from, how did we get here?"

A creation myth is a symbolic narrative of how the world began and how people first come to inhabit it.

Join Apollo Chamber Players to explore the Judeo-Christian, African and Australian perspectives on this universal question.

Violinist Matthew Detrick, Apollo Chamber Players co-founder and artistic director, stated, "Ex nihilo means 'out of nothing,' the fashioning of life ex nihilo by God. Music and art tell this uniquely human story more compelling than any other medium."

The program features a newly commissioned work based on Australian aboriginal Dream-time poetry by Christopher Walczak, Professor of Composition at Southern Illinois University, and a premiere arrangement of Haydn's Creation for chamber ensemble. Soloists and guest artists include members of Cantara Houston, Houston Chamber Choir and Rice University faculty and alumni.
