The ARTS At Marks Garage Announces The Addition Of Reiko Ho To The Team ImageThe ARTS at Marks Garage is proud to announce the addition of Reiko Ho to its team. Reiko will serve as the Programming Director for the organization, creating, organizing directing and supporting festivals and performances at the organization's home at 1159 Nu'unau in Downtown/Chinatown Honolulu.


"Reiko's extensive background in theatre and education make her the perfect person to elevate the performance and production side of our business" says Consulting Director, Donna Blanchard. "With her help, we'll be poised to both produce our own theatrical work and to be an affordable and supportive home for performance-based individuals and groups that do not have their own facilities. The goal of engaging a Programming Director is to provide our community new, varied and innovative performances throughout the calendar year."


As Programming Director, Reiko Ho is currently in discussions with burlesque, improvisation and both experimental and classical theatre organizations, including the Hawaii Fringe Festival, which will be hosted at The ARTS in 2019.


Reiko Ho holds a Master's degree in Theater and Dance and is a director, actor, and educator. This past Spring and Summer, she was the interim Artistic Director of EVOLVE Theatre Company. She also served as the Education Director for 'Ohi'a Productions, a professional Theatre for Youth company, and has worked extensively in Hawaii's public schools. She was the Upper School Dean of Students and Drama Director at La Pietra-Hawaii School for Girls for eight years.


The first festival planned for The ARTS is EMPOWERMENT, which will include #MeToo Survivors Circle presented by PlayBuilders of Hawaii, The Popolo Project film Healing Traditions, Cherry Blossom Cabaret and Hawaii Opera Theatre's production of a modern opera about refugees entitled, Lifeboat.

The ARTS currently houses an art gallery, collaborative working space and used bookstore operated by the Friends of the Library, as well as, a performance space. Presenting partners of The ARTS include Hawaii Shakespeare Festival, PlayBuilders of Hawaii and Hallowbaloo Music + Arts Festival.


Reiko's 2017-2018 directorial projects include Songs of the Dragons Flying to Heaven for EVOLVE, Patient for Kumu Kahua's Dark Night Series, The Tales of Hoffmann for Hawaii Opera Theater, and workshopping R. Zamora Linmark's new play, But Beautiful. Other recent projects include directing the world premiere of Lee Tonouchi's UchinaAloha for Kumu Kahua and the educational touring show, Sort it Out for Honolulu Theatre for Youth. Her directorial work was also featured in the One-Minute Play Festival, a national festival based out of NYC.


In addition, Reiko is a Hapkido Master and nationally certified trainer and fitness instructor. She owns Red Lotus Hawaii, a martial arts and fitness school that focuses on promoting a healthy lifestyle.


The ARTS at Marks Garage is the only non-profit community visual and performing arts center in Honolulu. Founded in 1997, the Hawaii Academy of Performing Arts (DBA The ARTS at Marks Garage) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization committed to transforming community through the power of the arts and establishing Chinatown, Honolulu as the creative capital of the Pacific.
