Manoa VAlley Theatre parties on in its 2016-17 season, with the rock musical, "Rock of Ages," by Chris D'Arienzo from the 2015 Broadway season. It's the tail end of the big, bad 1980s in Hollywood, and the party has been raging hard at one of the Sunset Strips last legendary rock and roll venues. The fairy-tale madness is about to end, though, when developers unveil plans to turn the fabled Strip into just another capitalist strip mall. Can a pack of rock and rollers save the strip-and themselves-before it's too late? Music of headliner pop bands from the era holds the answer. This is a Hawaii premiere.

Guest director of the production is Hannah Schauer Galli. Guest musical director is Keith Griffin. Guest choreographer is Katherine L. Jones. Co-assistant directors are Laura Clark Greaver, Andy Lee and Amber Lehua. Set design is by DeAnne Kennedy. Sound design is by Chad McComas. Lighting design is by Chikako Omoso. Costume design is by James Correy. Props design is by Sara Ward. Hair and make-up design is by Lisa Ponce de Leon. Performing in the show are Joshua Haili-Silva, Michelle Busekrus, Jesie Rocetes, Garrett Hols, Kenny Kusaka, Aiko Schick, Montana Rizutto, Andrew Baker, Melanie Kohler, Anette Aga, Alika Bright, Terrace Althouse, Jarren Amian, Cassie Favreau-Chung, Nicholas Myers, Ixchel Samaniego and Will Thomson. Members of the band are Matthew Mazzella, Keith Griffin, Chase Kaminaka, Jason Nomura, Derek Higashi and Keoki Van Orden.

The production will run March 9 - 26. Show times are Wed. 7:30p.m., Thur. 7:30 p.m., Fri. 8 p.m., Sat. 8 p.m., and Sun. 4 p.m. Tickets are $40. Seniors and military are admitted for $35, youth 25 years old and under for $22. Call 988-6131 or purchase tickets online at manoavalleytheatre.com. Tickets are also available at all military ticket outlets. The play is performed in two acts with one intermission. Approximate running time is approximately 2 hrs 20 minutes. Minimum age is 14.

Play sponsors are Alexander & Baldwin, Inc., Aqua-Aston Hospitality and Hawaii Gas. Seasonwide sponsors are Cades Schutte and the Cades Foundation, Iolani School, Honolulu Star-Advertiser, The George Mason Fund of Hawaii Community Foundation, Oceanic Time Warner Cable, Mike and Alberta Rosenberg, and Bob and Corrine Taylor on behalf of Maui Divers Jewelry. This event is made possible with support from the Hawai'i State Foundation on Culture and the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts.
