Kumu Kahua Theatre Announces 'Saturday Night at the Pahala Theatre'

By:

Saturday Night At the Pahala Theatre opens January 26th and plays for five weeks at Kumu Kahua Theatre.

The unforgettable poetry of Lois-Ann Yamanaka unfolds in this new theatrical adaptation.  Meet Tita, Girlie, Lucy, Kala, and other young women on the brink of adulthood, as they explore sexual awakening, family abuse, peer pressure, and identity.  With humor, pain, and raw honesty, their voices come to life on Kumu Kahua’s intimate stage.

The winner of the Pushcart Prize, Saturday Night at the P?hala Theatre was Lois-Ann Yamanaka’s first major work and introduced the world to one of Hawai‘i’s bravest writers.

This play contains strong language and adult content.

Kumu Kahua Artistic Director, Harry Wong, directs the play.  The design team includes set by Justin Fragiao, costumes by Alvin Chan, lighting by Daniel Sakimura, hair and makeup by Friston Ho'okana and props by Marya A. Takamori-Prickett.  The cast includes Lauren Ballesteros, Alvin Chan, Elexis Driane, Stephanie Keiko Kong, Moanililia Miller, Kelli Pagan, Maila P. Rondero, Shawn Anthony Thomsen, and Danielle Zalopany.

This show is being sponsored by the Iolani Class of 1958.
