Martin is in debt. Martin has three ex-wives. Martin is a pain in the ass. Martin is dying. Martin needs help. So Martin turns to the people who hate him the most. His family.
Seeking (all roles are available):
Renee:
Late 30s-early 40s. Martin’s oldest daughter. Lives in the suburbs with her husband and two children. Expects and resents being in charge. Stubborn, loud, pushy and often lecturing. Gets funny when she’s angry. Which is often.
Cassie:
Mid-late 20s. Martin’s youngest child. Rapidly goes through boyfriends, careers and apartments. Would be pretty, possibly even beautiful, if she pulled herself together -- but is currently a bit of a mess.
Gary:
Early - mid 30s. Martin’s only son. Pothead. Works at a comic book store and lives in his mother’s garage. Till now he has lived his life passively and without connecting much to others. Starts the play actively wanting to change this.
Angela:
Late 20s - early 30s. Single mom of a 9-year-old boy. No-nonsense, a bit frazzled and terribly exhausted. Looking for a big brother for her son.
Henry:
Mid 20s - mid 30s. Cassie’s on-again, off-again boyfriend. Young lawyer on the partner track. Very straight-laced. Good guy with good intentions. He’s a fixer. And Cassie is his current project.
Mark:
Late 30s - early 40s. Renee’s husband. Businessman. Has given up trying to save his crumbling marriage. He’s got one foot out the door.
Benjy:
Early - mid 20s. Gary’s co-worker at the comic book store. Big-hearted and good-natured. Slightly awkward. Looks up to Gary. In love with Cassie from afar.
Gwen:
Role has been offered, but not yet accepted, and is thus considered available; check notice again for casting-status updates. Late 40s - late 60s. Martin’s girlfriend. Beautiful, chatty Midwesterner. Never married and no kids of her own; reaches out to Martin’s children for help when his already-slipping health takes a turn for the worse.
Theatre’s statement: “Open to non-traditional casting for all roles.”
