SEEKING:
COME FROM AWAY
Book, Music, and Lyrics by: Irene Sankoff & David Hein
Directed by: Tom Quaintance
FIRST REHEARSAL: August 11, 2026
OPENING: September 6, 2026
CLOSING: September 20, 2026
In a small town in Newfoundland, an ordinary morning becomes extraordinary when the world suddenly changes. On September 11th, 2001, thirty-eight planes carrying nearly 7,000 passengers are diverted to the tiny town of Gander. As cultures collide and uncertainty fills the air, strangers open their homes, their kitchens, and their hearts.
This acclaimed Broadway hit tells the remarkable true story of kindness in the face of crisis. With a soaring score and an ensemble cast playing dozens of characters, Come From Away celebrates the generosity that can appear when we need it most. And reminds us how deeply connected we really are.
NOTE: All actors must be able to sing and perform heightened forms of movement. Should be able to lift, move and/or reposition furniture, blocks, etc. as well as climb/stand on set pieces. This is an ensemble piece that will have constantly changing scenic locations all executed by the ensemble. Everyone plays multiple characters. Looking for game actors who are great in the room more than specific character types. Some characters have more text with regional Newfoundland dialect than others, but all have some. Vocal range based on original score, might be mixed up depending on who all is cast.

At a small-town high school, a group of students begins studying The Crucible. What starts as a classroom discussion soon sparks something bigger. As the girls in the class question the stories they’ve been taught and the heroes they were told to believe in… they start to see their own lives in a new light. Sharp, funny, and fiercely contemporary, this breakout hit explores friendship, power, and the complicated process of finding your voice. Sometimes the stories we inherit aren’t the whole truth. The real lesson begins when we start asking questions.

[Beth Powell]: (18+ to play 17, Any Race or Ethnicity, she/her). Student. Nervous and ambitious and enthusiastic. Kind of like if Rory Gilmore and Paris Geller had a baby and raised her in the Deep South.
[Raelynn Nix]: (18+ to play 16, Any Race or Ethnicity, she/her). Student. A cheerleader type who’s always lived her life by other peoples’ standards. She was paying careful attention the whole time.
[Nell Shaw]: (18+ to play 16, Any Race or Ethnicity, she/her). Student. From Atlanta. Grounded and sincere. Genuinely curious about things. A good judge of character and a quick study.
[Ivy Watkins]: (18+ to play 17, Any Race or Ethnicity, she/her). Student. Fiercely loyal and always well-intentioned. From money. Resist the urge to play her as a mean girl.
[Mason Adams]: (18+ to play 17, Any Race or Ethnicity, he/him). Student. He’s never really tried before, and he’s surprised by how good it feels. Earnest and affable.
[Lee Turner]: (18+ to play 16, Any Race or Ethnicity, he/him). Student. A Carhartt-wearing good ol’ boy. Deeply insecure and without the tools to deal with it. He’s always been good at getting what he wants.
