BREAKDOWN

ABOUT:
Stirred by a controversial case in which a West African maid’s accusation against a powerful man is dismissed, Susan, a playwright working a survival job at a luxury hotel, starts interviewing fellow employees from around the world. She feels compelled to give voice to other hotel workers’ rarely heard stories—but as her investigation deepens, this documentary project becomes an unexpectedly personal journey. Funny, poignant, and brutally honest, we, the invisibles explores the complicated relationship between the movers and shakers and the people who change their sheets.

All actors must be good with humor and accents.

SUSAN:
Female, mid 20’s-mid 30’s, Asian or half Asian. A little hapless; able to navigate a lot of shifts; the investigator. Actor should have dead-pan comic timing.

Actor Track 1
Male, 30’s-40’s, Asian. Plays multiple roles including: Jansen: A sous chef and good spirited, friend, fellow investigator; Dennis: Chinese House Keeping Manager at the hotel; gruff, late 40’s; Rizal: effete, drag queen food runner; Shiwu: Chinese Minibar Attendant; matter of fact. Actor must be able to play a variety of ages, and ability to do Cantonese and Indonesian accents.

Actor Track 2:
Characters are Female, late 20’s-40’s, Asian or person of color. Plays multiple roles including: Kara – Cocktail waitress and model from Vermont; Aida – Uniform room attendant from Kosovo; Alvin – Catering dude from Hawaii; Fernando – Colombian ex-lawyer; Trish – works at Merrill Lynch; Nafissatou Diallo’s Lawyer; Shati – Tibetan housekeeping prospective hire; Jen – Vietnamese, works in HR. Ability to do Nepalese, Vietnamese, and Mongolian accents.

Actor Track 3:
Characters are Male, late 30’s-40’s, Caucasian. Alpha, powerful, entitled, imposing, strong. Plays multiple roles including: Angry Diner; Gerard Depardieu; Spencer – Entitled white man; Tipsy Douche ; Mark – Chef; Dog Food Man; David – Jewish Mystic; Rich – catering server; Peter – famous playwright/director; Novagen Rep –Pharmaceutical company employee. Ability to do French and Isreali accents.

Actor Track 4:
Characters are Male, 30’s, African-American or Latino. Warm, good looking, appealing. Plays multiple roles including: Jany – Dominican Security Guard; D-List Celebrity; Adjo- Norwegian, Liberian bartender; Balfour – Dishwasher from Ghana; Muhammad – quiet, Bengali busser ; Telegraph Reporter; Tenzin – Nepalese Security Guard. Ability to do Dominican, Norwegian, Nepalese, and Bengali accents.

Actor Track 5:
Characters are Female, late 30’s-40’s African American. Powerful; facile; able to shift. Plays multiple roles including: Nafissatou Diallo; Evelyn – Manager at the Hotel; Namgal – Nepalese uniform attendant; Vinny - Engineer, from the Bronx; Interviewer; Abdur – Bengali busser; Package Man; April – works at Merrill Lynch; Solomon - Dishwasher from Ghana; Dog Food Man’s Woman; Kate – Welsh reporter; David the Jewish Mystic’s Wife. Ability to do Ghanian, Southern, Bengali accents.
