To be considered for The Book Club Play, prepare a short comedic monologue. To be considered for the musical(s) in the season, prepare two songs that demonstrate your vocal and storytelling abilities. Seeking a diverse and dynamic ensemble of performers. Director may expand character descriptions and details for call backs.
Man 1: Tenor, D3-C5. Age 18-40.
Man 2: Baritone, F2 – Ab4. Ages 18-35.
Woman 1: Soprano, G3-F5. Ages 18-35
Woman 2: Alto/Belter, F3-F5. Ages 35-65
The Book Club Play
Rehearsal Dates: February 1st – March 1st, 2022;
Performance Dates: March 2nd – May 1st, 2022
Ana: White or Lantina, Female, 30’s. Charming, smart, accomplished and organizaed. A columnist for a Daily paper. The Mother Bee. Her grace masks a need to control.
Rob: White, Male, 30’s. Ana’s golden-boy charismatic under-achiever husband who is starting to search for meaning. Met in College. Upper Crust background.
Will: White or Asian, Male, 30’s. Rob’s conservative, well read, disciplined college roommate. Ana’s former boyfriend. History buff. Unmarried.
Jen: Female, 30’s. Ana’s friend. Shy, smart, tends to burst out with awkward truthful comments. Despite some lack of self-confidence, she is the grounding center of the group. Unorganized and oblivious to her own attractiveness. Unmarried.
Lily: Black, Female, 20’s. A go-getter, former debate captain who is on the cusp of all current trends and yet can still put her foot in her mouth in social occasions. Laughs at appropriate and inappropriate times. A great lover of books and Ana’s protégé at the paper.
Alex: Male, 30’s. The New Guy. A very smart, well-read academic who has lost his moorings and is searching for real connection. Professor of Comparative Literature.
You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown
Rehearsal Dates: March 22nd – April 19th, 2022;
Performance Dates: April 20th – June 19th, 2022
Charlie Brown: Male B♭-F (baritone). An everyman with ever-changing mood and grace; both befriended by all and at the same time often ostracized; a tentative leader who rises out of every downfall with shining hope and determination.
Lucy Van Pelt: Female G-F (mezzo); Linus’ older sister; a bossy, insistent girl who sometimes torments Charlie Brown; and has a passionately admires Schroeder.
Schroeder: Male; passionate and dedicated piano player; admirer of Beethoven; artist
Sally Brown: Female B-A♭(high mezzo); Charlie Brown’s younger sister who has a crush on Linus; vivacious and lively, energetic, playful and has a big imagination.
Snoopy: Male C-A (tenor); Charlie Brown’s pet dog; philosopher, very food motivated.
Linus Van Pelt: Male B♭-E (baritone); Charlie Brown’s blanket-toting best friend; while somewhat insecure and in need of a comfort object he is also extremely smart and knowledgeable, some may describe him as “unexpected”.

Rehearsal Dates: May 10th – June 7th, 2022;
Performance Dates: June 8th – July 31st, 2022
Walter Lee Younger: Black. Male, 30-40. Baritone. Discontented with his status in life as a Black man in America, he is a dreamer, whose big plans are fueled by his aspirations and ambitions to become something in the world and make a better life for his family.
Beneatha Younger ('Bennie'): Black. Female, 19-25. Mezzo-Soprano. Lena’s daughter and Walter’s sister; Beneatha is an intellectual; twenty years old, she attends college and is better educated than the rest of the Younger family. She dreams of being a doctor and struggles to determine her identity and find a place of belonging.
Lena Younger ('Mama'): Black. Female, 55-65. Alto/Mezzo. Walter and Beneatha’s mother; the matriarch of the family, Mama is religious, moral, and maternal; she wants to use her husband’s insurance money as a down payment on a house with a backyard to fulfill her lifelong dream for her family.
Ruth Younger: Black. Female, 29-37. Soprano. Walter’s wife and Travis’s mother; Ruth takes care of the Youngers’ small apartment; her 11-year marriage to Walter has struggles, but she hopes to rekindle their love. She is about thirty, but her weariness makes her seem older. She is an emotionally strong woman and her almost pessimistic pragmatism helps her to survive.
Travis Younger: Black. Male, 9-12. Tenor. Walter and Ruth’s son. Travis earns some money by carrying grocery bags and likes to play outside with other neighborhood children.
Joseph Asagai: Black. Male, 20-28. Tenor. A Nigerian student in love with Beneatha. Asagai is very proud of his African heritage and when he proposes marriage to Beneatha he hopes she will return to Nigeria with him.
Mr. Karl Lindner: White. 35-50. Mr. Lindner arrives at the Youngers’ apartment from the Clybourne Park Improvement Association; he offers the Youngers a deal to reconsider moving into his (all-white) neighborhood.
Bobo: Black. Male, 30-40. One of Walter’s business partners in his plan to open a liquor store.
Mrs. Johnson: Black. Female, 30-50. Mezzo Soprano. The Youngers’ neighbor and member of their church community, warns them about moving into a predominantly white neighborhood.
