She/her. Age range begins around late 30s, with no upper age limit. Open to all ethnicities. Sugar is a writer, a mother of two, and married. She accepts a position—somewhat impulsively—as the anonymous voice behind an online advice column. What begins as a gig becomes something transformative, as she finds unexpected healing through her correspondence with those seeking help.
Any age, gender, and ethnicity. First enters the story as the person who offers Sugar the advice columnist position. Throughout the play, they take on a series of distinct personas, including a recurring critic who signs their letters “WTF,” and a grieving father coping with the loss of his 22-year-old son in a car crash.
Any age, gender, and ethnicity. This character doubles as several people who reach out to Sugar, including a woman processing the aftermath of a miscarriage, and Sugar’s own mother, seen in recollected moments from the past. Their letters include moments of quiet resilience, vulnerability, and emotional weight.
Any age, gender, and ethnicity. Doubles multiple roles, each searching for connection or clarity. Notable characters include a transgender individual navigating questions about familial acceptance and identity, and a person wrestling with whether or not to remain connected to a narcissistic parent. Their letters explore themes of identity, boundaries, and healing.
