A NOTE REGARDING SELF-TAPE QUALITY:
Please film your audition in front of a clean background, with no backlighting. As much as possible, limit ambient noise including air conditioners and other electronics. We recommend you do not use Bluetooth headphones, as it can sometimes cause a delay in the audio. Use a secondary audio source to play the accompaniment music so that it is audible in the tape.
Based on Lyman Frank Baum’s children’s book, “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz”, The Wiz takes one of the world’s most enduring (and enduringly white) American fantasies and transforms it into an all-Black musical extravaganza for the ages.
Dorothy: (16-25) teenager that feels like she doesn’t belong. She is a seeker with a big heart and the capacity to be braver than she thinks.
Aunt Em: (35-50) loving soul, determined to ensure Dorothy belongs there.
Addaperle: (35-50) All knowing, clever with a big personality. Brilliant con artist.
Scarecrow: (20-30) big hearted and fiercely protective of his new friend Dorothy. Dances exceptionally well.
Tin Man: (20-30) deeply curious and clever, a real leader in the group. He is seeking a heart but has enormous compassion.
Lion: (20-35) Empathic kind soul who masks his insecurity with bravado. He is seeking the confidence and kindness Dorothy provides.
Evilline: (35-55) Big personality both evil and fierce. Cunning and ruthless but with style. The original Diva.
The Wiz: (40-65) the ultimate con artist. Smooth double talker with incredible charm. Larger than life.
Glinda: (35–50) generous, protective and encouraging soul. Your favorite Auntie.
