Breakdown

Two characters: Jessie Cortez (Female) and Chester Kimmich (Male)

Name: Jessie Cortez
Sex: Female
Age: 55-65
Race: African-American
Role: Supporting

Jessie is desperate but fierce. She is an incredibly tenacious woman with a big heart and a tremendous capacity to forgive. She is a woman of faith.

More:
The economic crisis has hit Jessie hard. She lives in the Bronx, is married to Ethan, and is on the verge of getting thrown out of her house. Her husband has heart disease and she doesn’t have much money to call her own as it is. She goes to Donaldo, her borough president for help. She has the same view of the banks and businesses that a lot of people do; she sees them more as gangs than anything. She bakes great cakes!

Name: Chester Kimmich
Sex: Male
Age: 40-55
Race: African-American or Latino
Role: Lead

Chester is a fallen leader. He, in his prime, could move any man to believe, but in a crisis of faith, has become depressed and clings to what little hope he has left.

More:
A middle aged man who has seen far too much, Chester borrowed money from Jessie to renovate the laundromat on the ground floor of her building, with plans of turning it into a church. Only issue is that he has no desire to hold a service. As he describes it, he “ran into a problem”. Because of this, he has not paid Jessie back, and it doesn’t look like he’ll be anytime soon.
