BREAKDOWN

NOTE FROM CREATIVE: THE ROMEO & JULIET PROJECT reimagines Shakespeare's timeless love story for the 21st Century through the iconic music of PAT BENATAR & NEIL GIRALDO. The new musical takes place in the modern, war-torn metropolis of Verona as the newly-elected Chancellor Paris vows to destroy the progressive resistance and return the city to its traditional roots. Through an intricate weaving of BENATAR & GIRALDO'S riveting rock anthems, inspired ballads, and new songs - an ethnically diverse, multi-cultural cast will explore how love and equality battle for survival in times of great transformation. THE ROMEO & JULIET PROJECT imagines peace in a divided world.

SEEKING ALL ETHNICITIES AND ALL GENDER IDENTITIES FOR ALL FOLLOWING ROLES:

[TYBALT/ENSEMBLE] – Male 18-25; Pop/Rock bari-tenor with an edge. Relentless in his devotion to Paris before all others. He has a plan to pull to become Vice Chancellor of Verona under Paris and will stop at nothing to see that plan through. He’s even willing to sacrifice the good of his family in order to attain this
ultimate power. Strong, confident, but he’s also hiding a secret. Perhaps his devotion to Paris comes with a little more passion than one would expect.

[MERCUTIO/ENSEMBLE]– Male, 18-25. Soulful gospel tenor up to a Bb. One of the Montague’s best fighters. He is funny, playful, but hot headed. Quick to make a joke but also quick to jump into a fight. (Vocally: Bruno Mars meets George Michael with a bit of Anthony Hamilton)

[SAMPSON/ENSEMBLE] – Male; early 20s. Strong Rock/Pop Tenor. He is a Capulet who really hates the Montagues and who is constantly looking for ways to stick it to them. Should be comfortable with stylized movement.

[GREGORY/ENSEMBLE] – Male; early 20s. Strong rock/pop vocal. He is Sampson’s sidekick, also a bit of a troublemaker. Should be comfortable with stylized movement.

[ENSEMBLE] – All gender identities. All ethnicities. 20’s-30’s. Diverse. Will play Montagues and Capulets. All need to be strong pop singers, dancers, and interesting types.
