PREPARATION
Please prepare a brief, contemporary musical theatre song showing range. Bring sheet music; an accompanist will be provided. Please bring a picture and resume, stapled together.

[PRINCE CHEN] Male, early 20s. Baritenor (A2-G4). The young Lord Prince. Enthusiastic, tenacious, honourable, adventurous.
[ZHIHAO] Female, early 20s. Strong mix/belt (Ab3-E5). Bondmaid and flute girl. Courageous, high–spirited, plucky, loyal.

[WOMAN] Female, 40s or older. Alto/high mix (G3-E5). Mysterious entity who taken on various personas, both male and female, including several wise MASTERS and NIANG, a motherly, protective eagle.
[MOXA] Male, 30s or 40s. Tenor (C3-A4). An honest thief. Devoted, childlike, affirmative, educated. Comedy role.

[NATHA] Male, mid-30s or 40s. Baritenor (Bb2-G4). Villainous warrior. Focused, malevolent, violent, devious.
[LI KWANG] Male, mid-30s or 40s. Baritone (A2-F4). Royal general and guard. Courageous, vain, confidant, determined.

KING – Prince Chen's father. Seasoned, distinguished, somewhat unaware.
MAGISTRATE – A corrupt official who thinks only of his own gain.
[LAN] Female, 10-13. Soprano (Bb3-F5). Timid, loving, resilient young girl.
[VILLAGE OFFICIAL / LAO HU] Male, 30s. Baritone (A2-F4). One actor to play two roles:
VILLAGE OFFICIAL – Obsequious, opportunistic, licentious. Non singing role.
LAO HU – A tiger. Preening, exhibitionist, adept.
