Breakdown

SEUSSICAL THE MUSICAL

Cat in the Hat: Male or Female, 20-40s. Extremely impish & mischievous with a sense of irony, mockery, and anarchy, but also the capacity for warmth and compassion. The Cat is a force of good, of humor, of wit, adventure and magic. Must be great with creating a variety of characters and accents. Extremely good physical comic and strong mover. Range: F2 - F4 or

G3 - C5

Horton the Elephant: 20s-40s. A compassionate and gentle elephant. Simple, sincere, somewhat out of place in a hip, cynical world. Earnest and true to himself. Range: A2 - F4

Gertrude McFuzz: 20s-40s. Horton's sweet but timid neighbor, she is insecure about her one feathered tail. She’s totally in love with Horton but is too shy and awkward to tell him. Range: F3 - F5

Mayzie Labird: 20s-40s. Mazie is the diva bird of the jungle with a fabulous multi-feathered tail. Oblivious to her self-centered ways, she relies on her talent of manipulation, and intoxicating beauty, to navigate her way through life. She abandons her egg to Horton’s care and ultimate realizes she won’t make as good of a mother as he does. Range: G3 - Eb5

The Sour Kangaroo: 20s-40s. Loud, brassy, and stubbornly set in her ways she is very vocal about her concern for her child and the jungle at large should Horton continue to protect the Whos. Unabashedly sassy and soulful.

Jojo: CASTING LOCALLY

Mayor of Whoville: 30-50. He loves his son Jojo very much but he’s concerned about his perceived mischievous behavior. Newly elected, he tried to do all he can to protect the citizens of Whoville. Sings well.

Mrs Mayor: 30-50. Also loves and is concerned about her son Jojo. Supports her husband in all he does. Sings well.

Genghis Khan Schmitz: 30-50s male. General of the military academy that Jojo is sent to. Believes in order, discipline and “the right of every Who to eat their bread butter side up”. Sings well.

GREASE

NOTE: This is a show about high school therefore except where noted all submitted performers should be 18 to late 20s and have a youthful appearance and energy.

Danny Zuko: The leader of the Burger Palace Boys; good-looking, strong and confident, with an air of easy-going charm. Pop/Rock Bari Tenor with falsetto mix.

Sandy Dumbrowsky: The new girl in town; sweet, wholesome, naive. She and Danny had a summer romance at the shore which she fondly remembers. But she finds Danny is a different person once they meet up at Rydell High. Pop/Rock singer with great belt.

Betty Rizzo: Leader of the Pink Ladies; Sexy, tough, and sarcastic but has a vulnerable side she keeps to herself. Rizzo is much more than she seems. Great singer with Mezzo Belt.

Frenchy: Good-natured but not too bright, she can't wait to finish high school so she can be a beautician. A dreamer who sees the best in people. Funny. Must sing well.

Marty: The 'beauty' of the Pink Ladies; A combination of Marilyn and Betty Page she looks older than the other girls, but betrays her real age when she opens her mouth. She tries to act sophisticated but she’s still a young girl. Must sing well.

Jan: Funny, always up for a good time, a compulsive eater and the most awkward member of the Pink Ladies. Loud and pushy with the girls, but shy with boys. Great singer. Mezzo Belt. Doody: The youngest of the Burger Palace Boys; on the shorter side, boyish and open, with a disarming smile and a hero-worshipping attitude towards the other guys. Plays the guitar. Major Pop/Rock tenor. Full voice to an A.

Kenicki: The second in command of the Burger Palace Boys; Tough-looking, surly and sexy in that totally bad boy way. He has an offbeat sense of humor. Strong Pop/Rock singer.

Sonny: The wiseass member of the Burger Palace Boys; funny Italian-American, he is a braggart and wheeler-dealer who thinks he's a real lady-killer. Must sing well.

Roger: A bigger, stocky boy who’ll do anything-for-a-laugh. A clown who enjoys winding people up, he is full of mischief and is always dreaming up half-baked schemes and ideas. Pop Tenor. Vince Fontaine: 30s-40s. Handsome in that slick disc jockey way. Egotistical and fast-talking, a local celebrity in his full glory. Must sing well.

Eugene: The class valedictorian; physically awkward, a real nerd. He's a typical 'apple-polisher'

- both smug and pompous, but gullible. Must sing well.

Miss Lynch: 40s-50s. No-nonsense English teacher. Very dry with excellent comic timing. Patty Simcox: A typical 1950s cheerleader; attractive, athletic, sure-of-herself, but can be given to bursts of annoying enthusiasm. She's a bit of a pain and unpopular with the Pink Ladies, and can twirl a baton. Must sing well.

Teen Angel: 30s-40s. Loaded with star wattage; right out of a teen’s dream. Dashing,

charming, handsome. Full of smart, if kind of harsh advice. Only appears to sing ‘Beauty School

Dropout’.

Irene Molloy: 20s-40s. A milliner with a hat shop in New York City. Dolly has introduced her to Horace Vandegelder as a possible mate but she yearns for romance. Falls in love with Cornelius regardless of his station in life. Belt with a soprano mix.

Cornelius Hackl: 20s-40s. Vandergelder’s chief clerk who yearns for one exciting day in NYC. A romantic at heart. Falls in love with Irene and tries to impress her beyond his means. Legit baritone.

Minnie Fay: 18 – 30 yrs. Works in Irene’s hat shop. Excitable, fast talking, and naive. Barnaby Tucker: 18 - 30 yrs. An assistant to Cornelius at Vandergelder’s Hay & Feed store. Sweet, gullible, and follows along with whatever Cornelius suggests.

Ermingarde: 18 – 25. The young niece of Horace Vandergelder. She cries often and wants her independence. Specifically seeking interesting character types.

Abrose Kemper: 18-25. An explosive young artist seeking to marry Ermingard. Specifically seeking interesting character types.

Earnestina Money: 25-40. An eccentric looking girl in need of Dolly’s matchmaker services. Good comic timing.

Rudolf Reisenweber: 40-60s. The major-domo of the Harmonia Gardens Restaurant. Judge: 50s-60s. White whiskered night court judge. Easily moved to tears by romance.
