Please record in a well-lit (not backlit) space, and if you are using a phone, please record in landscape/horizontal (not portrait/vertical).
The characters should transcend normal life into the fantastical, mythical realm of the Monkey King legend. Vocal style calls for everything from rock to folk to funk to classical. Big vocal range and agility in general.
Track 1: Ganjuwai the Elder/others – Female identifying, mezzo belt. Ganjuwai is the wise tribe elder, still has spurts of youthful energy. The Fairy Maidens are goddesses whose job is to entertain Jade Emporer and his subjects.
Track 2: Jogo/others – Female identifying, mezzo. Jogo has been bullied her whole life. A leader deep down, she just doesn't know it yet.
Track 3: Jade Emporer/General Tortoise/Grotus/others – Male identifying, tenor-baritone. Jade Emporer is the eccentric but insecure ruler of Heaven and Earth. General Tortoise is the Dragon King’s lackey on a never ending hunt for the ladies. Grotus is the lecherous guy most new arrivals work for in Heaven.
Track 4: Demon of Havoc/Gatekeeper/General Bixor/others – Male identifying, baritone character singer/screamer. Demon is a controlling and nasty tyrant and a subject of the Jade Emperor. Gatekeeper is the guard of the School for Immortals who takes pride in his job. General Bixor is sadistic, loves war and carrying out Jade Emperor's ambitions in battle.
Track 5: The Immortal of the Forest/Herald/General Shrimp/others – Male identifying, tenor with funk. The Immortal is a distinguished professor of mystical knowledge (for men). The Herald thinks highly of himself, often annoyed and over it, particular and precise. General Shrimp, like General Tortoise, is the Dragon King’s lackey on a hunt for the ladies.
Track 6: Guan Yin/others – Female identifying, legit soprano/folk. Guan Yin is the Goddess of Mercy, has a rebellious streak in her and seeks truth in all – omniscient.
Track 7: Dragon King of the Sea – Male identifying, character singer with strong tenor rock chops, loud, egotistical & chauvinistic.
Track 8: The Monkey King – Female identifying, legit soprano/mix. The toughest monkey ever born, clever and fearless. Doesn’t take things too seriously – until she has to.
