BREAKDOWN
The Last Jew of Boyle Heights comes to life in the Industrial East Side of Los Angeles. Three survivors meet on the factory floor set amongst deportations, poor wages, and fading memories.
Hersh: A hard working businessman, with a sense of humor and poise. Hersh is a Polish Jewish Holocaust survivor who settled in Los Angeles after the war. A fiery spirit, filled with determination and a strong work ethic. Mid to late seventies
Ortiz: A tough scrabbled guy from the streets of East Los Angeles. Born and raised in Boyle Heights he served in Vietnam. He is light hearted and tries to find the glass half full not half empty. A union organizer who shows flashes of an evangelical pastor in his speech. He can easily move from English to Spanish. Mid 40's to 50's
Jessinia: A beautiful young woman from a small town in rural Mexico. Jessenia is a flower in the desert. Poetic and Spiritual. She works on the shrink wrapping machine on the factory floor doing hard work, but you would never know by her wonderful smile. Mid to late 20's
Maria: A no nonsense Latina for East Los Angeles who will give you the shirt off her back. She loves to share stories about the neighborhood while working over the shrink wrapping machine. You will find her in church on Christmas Eve, but not most Sundays. Hardworking. 30s and 40s
Bornstein: A Los Angeles native, and product of the sixties. Bornstein marched with Caesar Chavez for migrant rights and never saw a protest he didn't want to join. He is a local union leader, and best described as West Coast Bernie Sanders. Mid 50s to 60s.
McLean: A no nonsense Irish American FDLA fire Inspector. His territory is the industrial Central and East side of downtown Los Angeles. He wants the workplace clean, safe and not afraid to let the boss know. 50's to 60's
Horowitz: The son of Hersh. A hard worker who has carried the weight of his father's holocaust experience during his life. Very sensitive and caring. He works for his father in the factory and the two have a close but explosive relationship. Mid 20's to mid 30's
Immigration officers: Two Border and Customs Federal Immigration officers: No nonsense mid to late twenties
Dance Patron: A man who frequents Dance Land, a sleazy dance hall in downtown Los Angeles. He dances with Jessenia at the club and crosses a boundary with her Mid 40s
