An Equity Monitor will not be provided. The producer will run all aspects of this audition.

SKYLIGHT MUSIC THEATRE 2026-2027 SEASON

Skylight Music Theatre’s goal is to create a positive and welcoming environment throughout the casting process. Character descriptions are outlined as described in the materials we receive from the licensing companies and in consultation with the creative team. Character descriptions are not intended to limit the performers who may be considered for a role.

We acknowledge that many scripts include roles that are traditionally presented within a gender binary and/or are historically cast with performers of a specific demographic. Skylight is not bound by these conventions in making our casting decisions.

GYPSY

SEEKING:

ROSE (ALREADY CAST)
Female presenting, 35 to 50
Vocal Range: Mezzo/Alto (Low F to C)
The ultimate stage mother. Lives her life vicariously through her two daughters, whom she's put into show business. She is loud, brash, pushy, and single-minded, but at times can be doting and charming. She is holding down demons of her own that she is afraid to face. Her voice is the ultimate powerful Broadway belt. Minimal dance but moves well. Comic timing is a must.

HERBIE (ALREADY CAST)
Male presenting, 40-55
Vocal Range: Baritone
The agent for Rose's children, Rose's boyfriend, and a possible husband number four. He has a heart of gold but also has the power to defend the people he loves with strength. Minimum dance. A baritone who sings in one group number, two duets and a trio with Rose and Louise. Strong acting role.

LOUISE
Female presenting, 18-25
Vocal Range: Mezzo (C#-Eb)
Shy and loyal. Since childhood, she is pushed aside by her mother in favor of her sister June, until she herself becomes her mother's new pet project. Able to move well. Minimum actual dance but has very strong movement skills. Portrays both the awkward teen and a sophisticated woman we know now as Gypsy Rose Lee. Comfortable dancing inside a cow costume and with the character's profession – stripping. NOTE: The character is sometimes scantily clad but never actually appears in the nude.

JUNE
Female presenting, 18-25
Vocal Range: Mezzo belt (Ab-Eb)
Plays Baby June as a young teenager. The older she gets, the less she enjoys being her mother's pet project. Dances very well, including tap. Strong Broadway singer, with close harmony skills. NOTE: The ability to do the splits and twirl a baton is a big plus, but not a requirement.

TESSIE TURA
Female presenting, 30-60
Vocal Range: C#-Db
Part of a trio of strippers just past their prime. Big Broadway voice (Mezzo Belt), strong movement/dance, ballet training helpful. A burlesque dancer that shares her dressing room with Louise. She was once a ballerina and still has some of the moves. An elegantly coarse broad who's been around the block. Very funny. Will also be a part of the ensemble as Miss Crachitt (Secretary at Grantziger’s Palace) and other small features.

MAZEPPA (ALREADY CAST)
Female presenting, 30-60
Vocal Range: G (below middle C)-Bb
Part of a trio of strippers just past their prime. Big Broadway voice (Alto Belt), strong movement/dance. A burlesque dancer who's tough and physically intimidating. Will also be part of the ensemble as Renee, a maid, and other small features. NOTE: Trumpet playing skills would be outstanding but not required.

ELECTRA
Female presenting, 30-60
Vocal Range: Bb-D
Part of a trio of strippers just past their prime. Big Broadway voice (Mezzo Belt), strong movement/dance. Quieter than her counterparts, but her costume is wired with lights, allowing her to shine without working up a sweat. Ditzy and sweet. Will also be part of the ensemble with small features.

3 MALE PRESENTING ENSEMBLE
30s-60s
Various vocal ranges. Character actors to play multiple featured roles. ENS 1: Uncle Jocko, Mr. Weber, Announcer 2, Phil the Press Agent, etc. ENS 2: Rose’s Father, Mr. Grantziger, Announcer 3, etc. ENS 3: Georgie/Stage Manager, Mr. Goldstone, Announcer 3, etc.

TULSA
Male presenting, 18-20
Vocal Range: High Baritone
Boy-next-door type. Part of “The Farm Boys”. Strives to break out of the troupe with an act of his own. Sings and dances All I Need Is the Girl. Extremely strong dancer in all styles of dance, including tap. Good singer, charming, very athletic. Will also be part of the ensemble with small features.

3 MALE PRESENTING ENSEMBLE
Age 18-20
Will be part of “The Farm Boys” and other ensemble features. Must be strong dancers/movers and vocalists. Will understudy principal or supporting roles.

3 FEMALE PRESENTING ENSEMBLE
Age 18-20
Will play various ensemble features. Must be strong dancers/movers and vocalists. Will understudy principal or supporting roles.

BIG: THE MUSICAL

JOSH BASKIN (ALREADY CAST)
Male presenting, 30-40
Vocal Range: Bb2-A4
The grown man that Josh turns into after making a wish. Initially aghast at being a teenager stuck in a much larger, and hairier body. He gradually becomes sucked into adult life and gains confidence.

SUSAN LAWRENCE
Female presenting, 30-35
Vocal Range: G#3-G5
An executive at MacMillan’s toy company and Older Josh's love interest. Beautiful and all business but getting involved with Josh helps her connect to her inner, happier child.

MRS. BASKIN
Female presenting, 40-50
Vocal Range: G3-D5
Josh's mother, protective and strong. Concerned about what effects puberty is having on her son's personality. Motherly and protective. Will also be part of the ensemble.

GEORGE MACMILLAN
Male presenting, 60-65
Vocal Range: C3-F4
A toy company owner trying to save his failing business. Distinguished, but with a good sense of humor. Will also be part of the ensemble.

PAUL SEYMOUR
Male presenting, 30-40
Vocal Range: F3-G4
A junior executive at MacMillan Toys who becomes Josh's rival in the office. Arrogant, immature, and entirely self-absorbed. Will also be part of the ensemble.

ADULT ENSEMBLE
Eight total. Varying identities and ages to play parents, Carnival People (Bean Bag Toss Lady, Bearded Lady, Ticket Taker); Port Authority People (Panhandler, Arcade Attendant); Macmillan Company Workers (Miss Watson, Young Interns), and Zoltar. Will also understudy principal roles.

DEAR EVAN HANSEN

EVAN HANSEN
Male presenting, high school teenager
Vocal Range: Pop Tenor (G2-C5)
A high school senior with social anxiety. Smart, sincere, and excruciatingly self-conscious, Evan prefers to hover in the background, a supporting player in his own life, too afraid to step forward into the spotlight and risk ridicule or, what might be worse, no one noticing him at all. He is assigned by his therapist to write letters to himself about why each day will be good, which becomes the catalyst for the plot of the story.

HEIDI HANSEN
Female presenting, 40s
Vocal Range: Pop Alto (F3-Eb5, belt)
Evan's mother, a nurse's aide who attends paralegal school at night, often leaving Evan on his own as a result. Overworked and stretched too thin, Heidi loves her son fiercely but fears they have begun to grow apart. As she works to build a stable life for her and her son, even when it pulls her away from home, she will do anything to repair the distance between them.

ZOE MURPHY (ALREADY CAST)
Female presenting, high school teenager
Vocal Range: Pop Soprano (F3-E5, bottom F to E two above middle C)
Connor's younger sister and Evan's longtime crush. Sensitive and sophisticated, with a sharp sense of humor, Zoe could care less about the status games and popularity rites of high school. She was never close to Connor, but after his death, she finds herself searching to understand him, turning to Evan when he claims they were friends.

CONNOR MURPHY
Male presenting, high school teenager
Vocal Range: Pop Baritone/Tenor (C3-G#4)
An angry, isolated young man who feels like an outsider among his peers, Connor has been struggling for as long as anyone can remember, often misunderstood and a source of deep concern for his parents. A classmate of Evan’s and a high school senior who, like Evan, has difficulty connecting with others, Connor eventually takes his own life during Act 1. His ghost appears in Evan's mind throughout the rest of the musical.

CYNTHIA MURPHY
Female presenting, 40s
Vocal Range: Pop Soprano (F#3-E5, belt)
Connor and Zoe's stay-at-home mother. She is constantly trying to keep her fragile family from falling apart, though it often feels beyond her control. To Evan, she seems to be the perfect mother, nurturing, available, and willing to talk about anything. To her own children, it’s a bit more complicated.

LARRY MURPHY
Male presenting, 40s
Vocal Range: Pop Baritone/Tenor (Bb2-G4)
Connor and Zoe's busy father. At home, he can be tense and hard to read, but to the outside world, he presents as strong, confident, and, above all, reliable. To Evan, he becomes the kind of father he has always wished for, someone to be counted on.

JARED KLEINMAN
Male presenting, high school teenager
Vocal Range: Pop tenor (D3-B4)
Evan’s sarcastic and quick-witted friend who masks his own insecurities with humor and a bit of bravado. A little nerdy and a little awkward, he helps Evan and Alana found The Connor Project.

ALANA BECK
Female presenting, high school teenager
Vocal Range: Pop soprano (F3-E5, bottom F to E2 above middle C)
Evan’s earnest and driven classmate. She is constantly seeking out academic and extracurricular opportunities to strengthen her college applications. Ambitious and deeply invested in everything she does, Alana hides a loneliness beneath an ever-present smile and friendliness.

Looking for 4 ensemble members to play various high school students. Must be strong vocalists and confident movers. Strong pop tenors a plus. Will understudy principal and featured roles.

THE D’YSQUITH FAMILY (ALREADY CAST)
Must be able to play a wide variety of roles and ages
Vocal Range: B2-F4
Doubles as all nine of the D’Ysquith family’s heirs – assorted comical characters of British high society in the early 20th century. With strong physical comedy skills and accent abilities that help differentiate the multiple characters. Possesses the stamina to carry the different characters throughout the show and make quick costume changes.

MONTY NAVARRO (ALREADY CAST)
Male presenting, 20s-30s
Vocal Range: A2-A4
Ever the optimist, Monty nevertheless struggles as he seeks to join the D’Ysquith family whilst watching the woman he loves marry another. To do so, he must knock off all of the family members between himself and the inheritance. He perseveres with panache and strong physical comedy skills.

SIBELLA HALLWARD
Female presenting, 20s-30s
Vocal Range: Gb3-D5
The girl Monty loves. Sibella has true affection for Monty, but more for social status. Sibella is smart, funny, and stylish. As far as relationships are concerned, she wants to have her cake and eat it too.

PHOEBE D’YSQUITH
Female presenting, 20s-30s
Vocal Range: C4-high sustained C#6 with an optional Eb6
Monty’s cousin. Phoebe was raised high-class with idealistic fantasies of love. She foils Sibella in her interest in love over status and tries to find the true virtue in people. Though she is smart and earnest, she can also be naive. A true soprano with a legit, possibly operatic sound.

MISS SHINGLE
Female presenting, 40s-60s
Vocal Range: G3-A
Monty’s unexpected visitor. Mysterious, Miss Shingle has an obvious sense of justice. She comes to tell Monty the secret of his D’Ysquith lineage with a pivotal song in Act One that sets up the story of the show. Will double as part of the ensemble.

ENSEMBLE
Various ages, genders, and vocal ranges to play a variety of roles including featured characters with solos and lines. Able to portray a variety of characters with a variety of accents. Will also understudy principal roles. Suggested vocal ranges:

Male Presenting, 20s-30s
Vocal Range: Bb3-D5
A loveable, good-guy rocker with great, easy comedic timing, boyish charm, vulnerability, and a very strong rock tenor voice. Drew works at the legendary Bourbon Room on the Sunset Strip hoping and waiting for his dreams to come true. He finds an instant attraction to Sherrie, the beautiful new arrival from the Midwest, who encourages him to go after his dreams.

SHERRIE CHRISTIAN
Female Presenting, 20s-30s
An innocent, Midwestern girl stepping right off the bus into a new world to pursue her dreams of stardom. Strong comedic timing, strong rock belt, and good movement ability.

LONNY BARNETT (ALREADY CAST)
Male Presenting, 40s-50s
Vocal Range: D3-D5
Narrator of the piece. Charming, mischievous, welcoming, vibrant personality. This is a guy who would be fun to spend one drunken night with. Strong comedic timing/improv skills and rock vocals. Confident mover.

DENNIS DUPREE (ALREADY CAST)
Male Presenting, 40s-50s
Vocal Range: D3-G4
Classic stoner type guy who runs the famous Bourbon Room club. Torn about whether he should sell the club to Hertz, a German businessman. Very strong comedic timing. A laid-back, easy-going, real dude. Bari-tenor rock vocals.

JUSTICE CHARLIER
All gender identities, 30s-50s
Vocal Range: G3-Db5
Strong presence with an easy sensuality about them. Once a performer, they now operate a strip club where Sherrie ends up working. Takes on the maternal role for the girls that work for her. Strong, soulful vocals and belt needed. Confident mover.

STACEE JAXX
Male Presenting, 30s-40s
Vocal Range: C3-Eb5
A sexy rock star. Decided to leave his successful hair/metal rock band to go solo. Self-important, confident, and intriguing in all the wrong ways, the ultimate bad boy; he is all about sex, drugs, and rock-n-roll. Must have strong comedic timing and a rock tenor voice.

HERTZ KLINNEMAN
Male Presenting, 40s-50s
Vocal Range: F3-G#4
An uptight, cold, intimidating German businessman trying to buy up The Strip to develop it. The bad guy of the piece. Strong comedic timing and baritone vocals.

FRANZ KLINNEMAN
Male Presenting, 20s-30s
Vocal Range: Db3-E5
Hertz’s young, German son. Works for his father but not by choice. Pressured and intimidated by his father. Shy, gentle with a big heart. Strong vocals and comedic timing. Confident mover a bonus.

REGINA KOONTZ
Female Presenting, 20s-30s
Vocal Range: A3-Eb5
Fun, hippie girl who fights against the attempted takeover of The Strip. Firmly believes in the preservation of The Strip’s history (and Rock and Roll) and will do anything to keep the vibrancy of their community intact. Strong comedic timing, belt vocals. Also, a strong dancer/mover. Will be a part of the ensemble.

Seeking strong character actors with good comedic timing to play numerous roles. Strong, rock tenor and strong dance/movement ability. Will understudy principal roles.
