BREAKDOWN

DESCTIPION:
Set in the 1970s in the heyday of analog recording, Stereophonic follows a rock band about to record the album of their lives, and looks at the sacrifices human beings make to achieve greatness.

SEEKING:

DIANA: American, mid-late 20s, female. With an impressive and interesting 70’s rock style voice she’s one of the lead singers in the band. Quirky, mesmerizing and beautiful. A bit Hippie. Has tremendous emotional and spiritual depth; she’s very innocent in a way. Deeply creative, passionate, emotionally intelligent. The drugs are becoming a problem. She wants to make good choices but can’t always, unfortunately.

PETER: American, late 20s/early 30s. Guitar and lead vocals. An innovator, kind of a crazy genius. Great musician and 70’s rock singer. He’s magnetic and temperamental. He’s in a long-term relationship with Diana. It can be tempestuous — he has a lot of control issues. But it’s real love. His leadership pushes the band into new territory and sometimes his pushiness can be too much for everyone. But he’s definitely brilliant, mainly. He’s driven by something, and it can make him a bit self involved—he can be in his own world.

HOLLY: Black, British, 30s, female. Piano and lead vocals. She’s an anchor for people. She’s in the process of breaking up her marriage with Reg, and is in the full flush of love with a younger man. She’s got a sort of elegance, a surface coolness, but there’s all this other stuff. She likes to kick back and have a drink — she’s not that fussy. Guys really like her and so do women. She knows when to speak and when to be quiet.

SIMON: British, late 20s – early 30s, male. Drums and may also sing. Takes much too much coke, but he loves the energy. He’s playful—can be goofy, eccentric and somewhat flamboyant. He likes to have a good time. His wife has just left him; he’s lovelorn and feels lost, but he can cover—drinking and drugs help. He doesn’t like sad scenes, or too much politics and stuff, he’s a regular bloke. He’s the dad of the band in a way—he often has to be the diplomat.

REG: British, late 20s/early 30s, male. Bass guitar and may also sing. He’s still wildly in love with Holly. The lack of clarity frustrates him—and he tries to sublimate his frustration into his music. He’s like a wounded big dog — he’s very sweet but prone to being a bit somber and depressive. He likes simplicity. He likes to know the rules of the game. Simon is his BFF, and he relies on him tremendously for wisdom and emotional support.

GROVER: American, late 20s, male— the engineer who fudged his way into the job, but he’s not untalented. He’s a sweetheart trying to be more hardened and real politik than he is, because he thinks he’ll go further that way. He’s a true innocent.

CHARLIE: American, 20s, male — assistant engineer. Laidback, good-natured, a little loopy, but incredibly good at his job. Less ambitious than Grover but things just fall into his lap.

SM positions are not available.
