BREAKDOWN

Ramon Novarro – Age 25 – 69, Latino, Male. The Hollywood heartthrob, Latin lover and one of the great romantic actors of his day. This magnetic star of the silent films who becomes a Hollywood has been. He’s a devout Catholic who is conflicted by his sexuality. His taste for liquor and hustlers leads to his demise. He is kind, thoughtful, warm-hearted and too trusting of others.

Billy Haines – Age 25 to 70. White Male. Leading man of the silent films known as the Wisecracker. He often considered the first “out” movie star. When Billy leaves the Hollywood studios he goes on to be a world-famous interior designer. Billy is a man with a sharp comeback, a charming personality who bucked the establishment. He’s never met a handsome man he didn’t like.

Jimmy Shields – 25 – 70 While Male. The handsome, sexy lifetime partner to Billy Haines. He’s a little rough around the edges and not particularly sophisticated. As the sailor who Billy brings from New York to Hollywood he feels he doesn’t fit in with the Hollywood elite. He has no problem attracting men and fulfilling his appetite with them.

Played by Actor 1 – 22 to 30, Male. Any Ethnicity Herbert Howe - Journalist for Photoplay magazine. Smart, articulate and in love with Ramon. Paul – Hustler, Tough and immoral. Ramon Novarro’s murderer. Reporter Played by

Actor 2 – 18 to 22, Male. Any Ethnicity Randolph- Young, somewhat naïve hustler. Sweet, handsome and eager to please. Tom – Hustler. Paul's dumber younger brother. Does everything his brother tells him. Also complicit in the murder of Ramon. Stenographer Swim Instructor Reporter Played by

Actor 3 – 30 to 40 , Male. Any Ethnicity Edward Weber - Ramon's Personal Assistant – A warm, caring man who is devoted to Ramon Novarro. Louis B Mayer - MGM Studio Head – No-nonsense, straight talking man who is strictly business. Photographer Reporter

Joan Crawford – Age 25 – 65. White Female. The play’s narrator. Devoted friend to Billy Haines and Jimmy Shields. Focuses on what she wants and gets it. Glamorous, funny, clever, driven and quick witted. The life of the party. This is not the Joan Crawford of Mommie Dearest.
