Cal - 20's Male: Rock star energy. Instinctive and charismatic, with an innocence that belies an underlying intelligence even he wasn't aware he possessed. Rock Belt Tenor (low B - high C)
Violet - 40s-50s Female: The cutthroat matriarch of a political dynasty. Determined and focused and unwilling to accept defeat. Belt Mezzo (low Gb - high belt C#)
Tina - 20s Female: Former stripper, pretty and dynamic. Damaged goods, but still capable of a deep emotional connection. Belt Soprano - (up to a C)
Leslie Pinchon - 40s-50s Female: Political consultant, sharp and bossy and comic. Same vocal range as Violet with legit soprano possibilities, ensemble [must sing in ensemble]
Ensemble Singers (M/F). Characters are 20s-40s, any ethnicity. Various characters. Should sing and move well. Many will also cover principal roles.

Piper – 20s Female: A pop star with a powerhouse voice
Neela – 20s Female: A pop star with powerhouse moves
Jeff – 20s Male: Awkward yet charming, a struggling guitar player (plays guitar)
Chorus - three Females, all with big pop influenced belts.

Shug - 30s-40s, African-American Female: Attractive, confident, dynamic, powerful, irresistible, but has a frailty. Needs a knockout bluesy singing voice.
Mister - 30s-40s, African-American Male: Handsome, big, masculine, strong presence, dominating, capable of brutal behavior but also a victim in his own way. Needs a great singing voice.
Sofia - 30s – 40s, African-American Female: Powerful warrior woman. Physically bigger but beautiful. Comfortable being large, great sense of humor, touching, vulnerable. Needs a great belt singing voice.
Harpo - 20s – 30s African-American Male: Mister's vulnerable, confused, good-hearted son. Needs a great tenor singing voice.
Nettie - 20s African-American Female: Celie's younger sister. Attractive, adventuresome, feisty spirit, maternal, more educated and knowledgeable than Celie. Needs a great belt singing voice with African influence.
Squeak - 20s African-American Female: Harpo's lover after Sofia leaves him. Attractive, sassy, fiery, strong-willed, unafraid to take anybody on, has a caring heart. Needs comic chops. Needs a great singing voice with belt and soprano capability.
Adult Singers: Males and females, 20s - 50s, African-American. All types and singing ranges. Need great singing voices and dynamic personalities. To play various roles in the ensemble
Child Singers (One African-American male 9 - 12 years old and two African-American females 9 - 12 years old. Need strong singing voices and dynamic personalities).

Jean-Michel – 20s Caucasian Male - Handsome; brunette; masculine, well-mannered, educated; desperately in love with his fiancee, Anne; acts, sings, and moves well. Baritone.
Anne Dindon – early 20s Caucasian Female - Jean-Michel's fiancee; lovely to look at; spunky; a superb dancer who acts well.
Monsieur Edouard Dindon – 50s Caucasian Male - Anne's father; right-wing radical politician; pompous; quirky; must sing, move well, and be a fine comedian. Baritone.
Madame Marie Dindon – 50s Caucasian Female - Anne's mother;, shy, retiring, sexually repressed and sex-starved; good singer and actress who moves well. Mezzo.
Jacqueline – 40s – 50s Female - Mature, female friend of Georges and Albin; owns a chic restaurant; attractive, charming; very theatrical; not necessarily a singer. Mezzo Belt.
Monsieur and Madame Renaud - 40s – 50s Male and Female – Owners of the Promenade Café.
Francis – 40s Male - Stage manager of La Cage aux Folles. Strong actor/dancer. Baritone.
Les Cagelles – The drag performers at La Cage aux Folles who also serve as background performers for Zaza.
