BREAKDOWN
Chris Gorman:
Female, 30-40 An attractive literary lawyer. Married to Ken. She recently quit smoking but still has the urge. Normally totally in charge, she gradually falls apart during the course of the play.
Claire Ganz
Female, (35-45) Lenny’s wife: she shares his sense of humor and amusement by the world. She is practical and down to earth.
Cookie Cusack
Female, (45-50) Cookie is the flamboyant host of her own TV cooking show. When it comes to cooking, she can do anything. Her handicap is a bad back, and other physical eccentricities. She carries a special pillow everywhere.
Cassie Cooper
Female, (25-35) Glenn’s young wife and flower child. She and Glenn are not seeing eye to eye at the moment, and she threatens divorce. A great believer of power of crystals, Cassie hides in the bathroom to avoid confrontation. But she is also capable of creating a scene to annoy him.
Officer Pudney
Male or Female (Late 20s) Earnest young cop; Welch’s partner.
Ken Gorman
Male, (40–50) Chris’s husband. He is a high power attorney, and a master of law and propriety. He feels he must protect his client at any cost. Ken can be dictatorial and demanding, but he is proud of running a tight ship. Midway through Act I, a gun goes off near his head and leaves him virtually deaf and constantly “mis-hearing” for the central section of the play.
Leonard “Lenny” Ganz
Male, (35-45) Claire’s husband. Although his BMW has just be totaled, Lenny has a great sense of humor and is amused by the world. He is an expert accountant - he can justify anything. Near the end of the play, he has a bizarre “improvised” monologue that brings the bizarre plot to a resolution.
Ernie Cusack
Male, (45–50) Ernie is Cookie’s husband and a psychoanalyst. He is the calming element in the midst of the storm. He helps Cookie prepare the meal and is mistaken for the butler.
Glenn Cooper
Male, (35-50). Glenn is a candidate for the State Senate. Somewhat pompous (and handsome), he is constantly aware of his image and how scandal might impact his candidacy. He and Cassie are going through a “rough patch” in their relationship.
Officer Welch
Male, (40-65) - A good, smart, no nonsense, of the street, law and order, police officer. You would be happy to have him on your case because he is going to catch the culprit.
