In the Paramount Pictures film, the PRINCESS was played by Audrey Hepburn, JOE BRADLEY was played by Gregory Peck and IRVING RADOVICH was played by Eddie Albert. For the musical we’re seeking strong actors who sing very well. This is a traditional book musical and a romantic comedy. Stylistically it is in the world of MY FAIR LADY and SHE LOVES ME. The score is composed of Cole Porter songs.
Princess:
Should read in her early 20s and should be a legit soprano (the sound of a young Julie Andrews or Shirley Jones). The Princess is a sweet and spirited but rather naïve young woman. One should have the sense that she could easily be taken advantage of. The actress playing her needs to be beautiful and graceful
Joe Bradley:
Should read mid 30s to 45 and should be a baritone (the sound of a Harry Connick or a young Frank Sinatra). Joe should seem like an opportunist at first – street smart and resourceful. As the story progresses, Joe develops a more refined conscience (thanks to his growing fondness for the Princess). The actor playing Joe should be attractive and distinctly masculine.
Irving Radovich:
Can read 50s/60s and should be a bari-tenor / tenor. Irving is a classic "side-kick" role. He has an eye for the ladies and enjoys a good time. Seeking strong comic character actor who sings and moves well.
