BREAKDOWN

[DERRIL LARK] 27, male, any ethnicity. A PhD candidate in 19th Century Literature. Very bright, a little strange (though not for lack of trying). For a few months in high school he became obsessed with a girl. It ruined his life.

[MARTA LEE] mid to late 30s (about the same age as Annie or a little older) person of color, a Michigan attorney with her own small private practice. Served in the US Attorney's office with Annie. Funny, relentlessly intelligent, an idealist.

[ANNIE ZAHIROVIC] mid to late 30s, female, white. A former Assistant US Attorney, now a lobbyist for a major DC law firm. Came to the United States from Bosnia in 1997 when she was about 10. Fierce and brilliant.

[ALVARO SANTOS] late 30s to late 40s, person of color, male. A young and ambitious State's Attorney General.

[SARITA IMARI] late 20s, any ethnicity, female. A chemist, sweet, quirky, the youngest child

[EVE SELINSKY] 28, any ethnicity, an art teacher, serious. Followed by Derril as a teenager. She's worked hard not to let it ruin her life.
