Breakdown

Dorothy Marcic’s popular and high-energy musical – which recounts the journey of women in the 20th century through Top 40 songs. Opening April 18th, 2012 for a minimum 10-week run in San Diego, with an option to extend for another 10 or more weeks. Possibility of touring to a few other cities after San Diego, so seeking women who are interested in long-term contracts.

4 Female Performers:

1. Narrator: Caucasian Female, late 40's to late 50's, scholarly, believably of Norwegian descent. She is the backbone of the show, interacting with the audience and the other 3 women to bring the stories to life. Must be warm and welcoming, with the ability to make the audience feel she is talking directly to them individually. Moderate singing and some movement required. Featured songs include:"Che Sera Sera","In My Daughter's Eyes", and"Piece of my Heart".

2. African-American Female, mid-20s to mid-30s. Can sing jazz, soul, R&B. Dance skills a plus. She is abrasive—the “hard-hearted Hannah,” and needs to find her vulnerability. Real courage is not displayed by aggression or overdone power. She learns to temper her strength, to push back in more productive ways. Featured songs include: “I Will Survive”, “Where the Boys Are”, “Respect”, and “Hero”.

3. Female, early/mid-20's, any ethnicity. Can sing standard musical theater and pop. Dance skills a plus. The ingenue of the group, bouncy, energetic, a bit ditsy, but full of heart. She is innocent and naïve, searching for her own strength and belief in herself. Featured songs include:"As Long As He Needs Me","It Must Be Him", and"Greatest Love of All".

4. Female, mid-30's to mid-40's, any ethnicity. Can sing standard musical theater, jazz, and pop. Dance skills a plus. Perhaps a bigger girl or one who used to be, she is greatly lacking in self-confidence. Her only source of strength is her sexuality and her body, which she nonetheless detests. She finally learns to accept herself and find inner strength. Features songs include:"Whatever Lola Wants","Won't You Come Home Bill Bailey","Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend", and"I've Never Been to Me".
