BREAKDOWN
PAINT NIGHT by Carey Crim
MIRIAM: Female. Late 50s to early 60s. Any ethnicity. A humanities professor with a grown son and daughter. A woman whose desire to see the bright side of life has been greatly tested. She is a raw nerve right now.
BREE: Caucasian. Female. Late 30s to early 40s. Fern’s daughter. A working mom with a stay-at-home husband and a six-year-old child.
GWEN: African American. Female. 40s. She was a business wunderkind who, after taking time off to raise her children, is finding it difficult to reenter a workforce that no longer values her.
FERN: Caucasian. Female. Late 50s to early 60s. Bree’s mother. She put everything into her family, even when they didn’t want it. A good Christian woman trying to do the right thing, but the world is changing too fast for her.
LOLLY: Any ethnicity. Female. 30s. Miriam’s daughter. A bit of a Peter Pan lost soul. Five careers in as many years. Grew up with a schizophrenic older brother who tended to suck all the air out of a room.
VERA: Any ethnicity. Female. 60s to 70s. Paint night leader. A straight-shooting free spirit.
