Equity Principal Auditions:

10 AM – 6 PM 520 Eighth Avenue, 10th Floor

Lunch from 1:30 – 2:30. New York City.

Please prepare a brief folk/rock song in the style of the show. All actors MUST accompany themselves on one of the instruments specified in the breakdown below. There will be a piano and guitar in the audition room; any other instruments must be brought to the audition by the actor.

Please bring a picture & resume, stapled back-to-back.

The current Off-Broadway cast is transferring to Broadway. The following understudy positions are available for the original Broadway cast:

Understudy for Guy, Billy and Eamon:

AVAILABLE POSITION. Male U/S track, late 20s-30s. Seeking an excellent actor/singer/musician. Must play guitar and piano extremely well. Other instruments a plus, especially bass guitar. Must also have an excellent Irish accent. See below for character details.

Understudy for Svejc, Andre and Emcee:

AVAILABLE POSITION. Male U/S track, early 20s – early 30s. Seeking an excellent actor/singer/musician. Must play guitar, bass guitar and drum kit extremely well. Other instruments a plus. Must also have excellent Czech and Irish accents. See below for character details.

Understudy for Da and Bank Manager:

AVAILABLE POSITION. Male U/S track, early 40s up. Seeking an excellent actor/singer/musician. Must play guitar and cello extremely well. Mandolin/ukulele is a plus. Must have an excellent Irish accent. See below for character details.

Understudy for Girl, Reza and Ex-Girlfriend:

AVAILABLE POSITION. Female U/S track, 20s – early 30s. Seeking an excellent actor/singer/musician. Must play piano and violin/fiddle extremely well. Other instruments a plus. Must also have excellent Czech and Irish accents. See below for character details.

Understudy for Baruska:

AVAILABLE POSITION. Baruska is a woman character, 50s up. Seeking an excellent actor/singer/musician. Must play the piano/accordion extremely well. Other instruments a plus. Must also have excellent Czech accent. See below for character details.

The following descriptions are provided for the information of those interested in the understudy positions listed above. The following roles are all cast with the performers who play them in the current Off-Broadway production; understudies only are sought.

    Girl:

    Mid - late 20s. Pianist and folksy singer. Direct, no-nonsense, witty and unbelievably cool. Has had to work hard at life, but doesn't think she deserves any sympathy. Must have an excellent Czech accent. Must sing and play the piano extremely well.


    Guy:

    Mid – late 20s, Irish. Struggling musician. Lost and a bit sad. Works with his Da in a vacuum repair shop. Must sing and play guitar extremely well. Must have a great Irish accent.


    Billy:

    Mid 30s-40s, Irish. Large. Owner of the music store where Girl plays piano. Loud, funny and protective of Girl. Irish accent. Must sing and play guitar well.

    Reza:

    Late 20s. Loud, sexy, funny Czech girl. Often a bit larger than life. Must sing extremely well. Czech accent. Must play violin well.

    Baruska:

    50s up. Mother of Girl. Cool but caring Czech mother. Likes a full house and full stomachs. Not many inhibitions. Czech accent. Must sing and play the piano/accordion.

    Bank Manager:

    Man, 30/40s. Seems quite prim and proper, but has a secret passion for music. Irish accent. Must sing and play guitar and cello well.


    Da:

    50s up. Guy’s dad. Quiet but caring father. Must play guitar, ukulele/mandolin well. Must have excellent Irish accent.

    Svejc:

    Man, 20s/30s. A real oddball. Loves television and coffee. Must play guitar and drum kit extremely well. Must have excellent Czech accent.


    Andre:

    20s. Earnest and kind. Employee at a fast food chain, but has big dreams. Must play guitar and bass guitar extremely well. Czech accent.


    Eamon:

    30s/40s. Manager at the music studio where Guy and Girl record their album. A tough nut to crack, but eventually gives in to the musicians’ talents. Must sing and play guitar and piano well. Must have excellent Irish accent.


    Emcee:

    Man, late 20s-30s. Emcee at a club. Good-natured ball-buster. Must sing and play guitar extremely well. Must have excellent Irish accent.


    Ex-Girlfriend:

    20s. Guy’s ex-girlfriend; now lives in New York. Kind, lovely and likeable. Must play violin extremely well. Must have excellent Irish accent.
