SEEKING:

[CARL PERKINS] Male identifying, early 20s to early 30s. Excellent singer and lead guitar player. Perkins was the American pioneer of rockabilly music and best known for his song Blue Suede Shoes. Resembles and sounds like Carl Perkins without being an impersonator. D3-C6.

[ELVIS PRESLEY] Male identifying, early 20s to early 30s. Must be familiar with his music and style (vocal and movement), able to play guitar and sing. Presley is often referred to as ‘The King of Rock and Roll”. Looks and sounds somewhat like Elvis without being an impersonator. A3-C6.

[JERRY LEE LEWIS] CAST Male identifying, early 20s to early 30s. A superb pianist and vocalist and able to play like Jerry Lee; he was rock & roll’s legendary piano prodigy and celebrated “Last Man Standing.” He is fun, energetic and witty. D4-C6.

[JOHNNY CASH] Male identifying, early 20s to early 30s, 6’ or taller. An excellent singer and guitar player; Looks and sounds like Johnny Cash without being an impersonator. D3-E5.

[SAM PHILLIPS] Male identifying, early 30s to early 40s. Speaking role. Both towering and charismatic, he was considered the father of rock and roll. He was the founder of Sun Records, discovered Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, and many others.

[DYANNE] Female identifying, early to late 20s. A powerful pop/rock belt vocalist. An aspiring singer and Elvis’ girlfriend; she is quiet, but friendly with all the musicians. Her sex appeal gives Elvis a run for his money. A3-Eb5.

[FLUKE] Male identifying, early to late 20s. Carl Perkins’ drummer; loyal, but not interested in the politics of the business. Non-Speaking/Singing role.

[BROTHER JAY] Male identifying, early to late 20s. Carl Perkins’ brother and bassist; similar to Fluke, he is also loyal but unwilling to get involved in the politics of the industry. Extremely skilled bass player. Non-Speaking/Singing role.

A unique, appealing, funny, and vulnerable girl from a Jewish family in Brooklyn. Talented, good natured, unassuming, and often the peacemaker in difficult situations. A reluctant star with no pretense and a passion for music. Mezzo/Soprano belt.

[GERRY GOFFIN] Male Identifying, 18+ to play late teens-late 20s. Carole’s boyfriend, songwriting partner, and eventual husband. He is smoldering, dark, and handsome with a rebel vibe. Although sexy, he is innately sympathetic, wounded, and tortured. An ambitious artist always striving for more. Sings well. Baritone/tenor.

[CYNTHIA WEIL] Female Identifying, 18+ to play late teens-late 20s. A songwriter who becomes romantically involved with Barry. Carole’s best friend. She is sophisticated, smart & chic with a quick wit. Although self-confident and sarcastic, she is also extremely likeable. Strong comedic timing. Mezzo-Soprano belt.

[BARRY MANN] Male Identifying, 18+ to play late teens-late 20s. A songwriter who becomes romantically involved with Cynthia. He is good natured, appealing, and neurotic. Ambitious, but likeable. High pop/rock tenor.

[DON KIRSCHNER] Male Identifying, 30s-40s. An influential music publisher and producer. He is a fast talking, energetic, force of nature. Powerful, direct, and sometimes intimidating, but he has a real affinity for his writers and artists. A hit maker.

[GENIE] Female Identifying, 40s-50s. Carole’s Jewish mother. Once an aspiring playwright, she has been broken down by life and her husband’s infidelity. Protective of Carole and unforgiving of her husband’s mistakes.

[COSMO BROWN] Male identifying, mid 20s-late 30s. Don’s best friend and former dance partner. Wacky and playful with high energy. Very athletic comedian; An extremely strong tap dancer. Tumbling, acrobatic ability, and basic piano skills are a plus.C3-Ab4

[KATHY SELDEN] Female identifying, early to late 20s. She is charming, forthright, witty, honest, beautiful, strong-willed, and smart. An extremely strong tap dancer with outstanding ballet technique as well. G3-F5

[ROSCOE DEXTER] Male identifying, mid 40s to mid 50s. High strung film director for Monumental Pictures, doesn’t deal with stress well. Strong character/comedian. Non-singing role.

[R.F. SIMPSON] Male identifying, mid 50s to mid 60s. A successful, magnanimous film producer; he leads the other characters into creating a movie musical. Non-singing role.

[LINA LAMONT] Female identifying, 20s to 30s. Don’s leading lady on screen (but not off); air-headed starlet with a big ego, and the famous annoying voice. A great comedienne/character actress. C4-Eb5.

[MICHAEL DORSEY/DOROTHY MICHAELS] Male identifying, 30s-40s. A failing actor, Michael is a nightmare to work with—abrasive, stubborn, outspoken, yet talented. In desperation to achieve his dreams, he reinvents himself as Dorothy Michaels, who is playful, loveable, and humorous. An extremely strong comedic actor. Sings and moves very well, with a high falsetto. A2-Bb4.

[JULIE NICHOLS] Female identifying, 30s. Current Broadway star who is self-assured and focused. Knows exactly what she wants at every step of her life (to a fault). Longs for connection, but masks her vulnerability with heartfelt humor. Has a strong belt voice. E3-Eb5.

[SANDY LESTER] Female identifying, mid to late 30s. Out-of-work actor; pessimistic, neurotic, and self-deprecating, but with a big heart. A strong comedian with excellent patter skills. A3-E5.

[MAX VAN HORN] Male identifying, mid 20s to late 30s. Self-obsessed, dim-witted, and superficial reality star, now Broadway actor. Believes himself to be extremely sexy and hugely successful. Sings and moves very well. C3-G4.

[JEFF SLATER] Male identifying, 30s to 40s. An unsuccessful playwright, Jeff is Michael’s roommate and best friend; he is a bit lazy and lacks ambition. The voice of reason in Michael’s life. Sings. Baritone, Tenor, with a bit of falsetto.

[RITA MARSHALL] Female identifying, early 50s to late 60s. Broadway producer; remains level-headed and sane during moments of pure chaos and panic. Always one step ahead, she is sarcastic and very likeable. Sings. Alto, Mezzo-Soprano.

[RON CARLISLE] Male identifying, early 40s to early 50s. Broadway director and choreographer; though determined, he is argumentative, impatient, and arrogant (despite his self-proclaimed humility). Sings. Baritone.

[STAN FIELDS] Male identifying, 50s. Michael’s overworked agent; he is frustrated by Michael and his career choices. Very knowledgeable and experienced, but exhausted. Speaking Role.
