Equity actor singers for various roles in: THE BOYS FROM SYRACUSE ANYTHING GOES CALAMITY JANE Musicals Tonight is dedicated to showcasing underappreciated musicals AND underappreciated actors. Since 1998 we’ve presented 97 musicals performed by over 1,500 actors. Actors of all ethnicities are encouraged to audition.

PREPARATION

Please prepare a brief musical theatre song from the 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s – Gershwin; Rodgers & Hart, et al. preferably funny. Bring picture and resume, stapled together

OTHER DATES

EACH of the three productions runs for 2 weeks (8 performances/week including Friday matinee – no Friday evening). We rehearse for 3 weeks and are OFF BOOK by opening night.

SYNOPSIS
The Boys from Syracuse is a madcap musical comedy farce about mistaken identity with music by Richard Rodgers and lyrics by Lorenz Hart, based on William Shakespeare's play, The Comedy of Errors, as adapted by librettist George Abbott. Well-known songs from the score include Falling in Love with Love, This Can't Be Love and Sing for Your Supper.

SEEKING A COMPANY OF ALL MALE / TRANSGENDER CAST MEMBERS: CHARACTER MEN, COMEDIANS AND CLOWNS WHO ALSO SING:

AEGEAN: (character is male, 45-65, Any Ethnicity) The father of the two Antipholuses, he has spent seven years looking for them. Physical comedy skills a must. A vaudevillian version of the classic Commedia character – “Pantalone”. Baritone.

ANTIPHOLUS OF EPHESUS: (character is male, 20-30, Any Ethnicity) A cocky, flirtatious rogue – a real charmer. He is more outgoing and confident than his twin brother. Strong singer with leading man qualities and excellent comedy skills. Lyric Baritone.

DROMIO OF EPHESUS: (character is male, 20-30, Any Ethnicity) A doting servant, and a worried wart. Great comedic timing. Physical comedy/clowning skills a plus. A vaudevillian version of the Commedia “Zanni”. Tenor.

ANTIPHOLUS OF SYRACUSE: (character is male, 20-30, Any Ethnicity) A likeable character – a softer and more settled version of his twin brother. Strong singer with leading man qualities and excellent comedy skills. Lyric Baritone.

DROMIO OF SYRACUSE: (character is male, 20-30, Any Ethnicity) A natural clown who is easily entertained. Strong physical comedy/clowning skills. A vaudevillian version of the Commedia “Zanni”. Baritone.

ADRIANA: (character is female, 18-28, Any Ethnicity) A zaftig person with a tender heart who easily falls in love. Seeking a lively personality ready to transform into a woman, in the original style of Elizabethan Comedy. Baritenor or Tenor (Keys will be adjusted).

LUCE: (character is female, 18-28, Any Ethnicity) A controlling and dominating person. Seeking a lively personality ready to transform into a woman, in the original style of Elizabethan Comedy. Baritone/Baritenor (Keys will be adjusted).

LUCIANA: (character is female, 18-28, Any Ethnicity) A dreamer and a lover. Seeking a lively personality ready to transform into a woman, in the original style of Elizabethan Comedy. Tenor (Keys will be adjusted).

CHARACTER MEN ENSEMBLE: (characters are male and female, Various Ages, Various Ethnicities) multiple roles including Courtesan – the girl who can’t settle down, Tailor – a victim of the mistaken identity in the play, Angelo – the local goldsmith, Sorcerer – with tricks offered at a “reduced rate”, Seeress – a formidable lady & Duke – a stern stickler for the rules. Seeking excellent Character actors, with amazing range in style and sense of humor. Must be willing to make big choices and believably play multiple roles. Puppetry and instrument skills a plus. Should be excellent movers. Various vocal ranges

SYNOPSIS Anything Goes! is set aboard the ocean liner S. S. American, where nightclub singer/evangelist Reno Sweeney is en route from New York to England. Her pal Billy Crocker has stowed away to be near his love, Hope Harcourt, but the problem is Hope is engaged to the wealthy Lord Evelyn Oakleigh. Joining this love triangle on board the luxury liner are Public Enemy #13, Moonface Martin and his sidekick-incrime Erma. With the help of some elaborate disguises, tap-dancing sailors and good old-fashioned blackmail, Reno and Martin join forces to help Billy in his quest to win Hope’s heart.

HOPE HARCOURT: (Female – 20s) A classic beauty. Ingénue leading young lady. Soprano/Mix. This character has to have major acting depth to carry the shows storyline. Trained dancer. Debutant daughter of Evangeline.

EVANGELINE HARCOURT: (Female – 40s-60s) Very Poised New York Socialite/Widow, who lost everything in the crash. Over Acting Drama Queen gold digger. MEZZO/good mover.

ELI WHITNEY: (Male – 50s-60s) A rich New York Stockbroker. (Billy's Boss) Comedy a must, movement a plus. Wants his last chance romance with Evangeline.

MOONFACE MARTIN: (Male – 30s-60s) A Vaudeville Gangster. Clown-like Song and Dance man. Friends with Reno. Erma is his sidekick.

ERMA LATOUR: (Female – 20s) Dumb as a fox, classic 1930's bleach blond starlet gangster moll. Must be comfortable wearing next-2-nothing and OWN IT! Baby girl ping vocals. Comedy/Dance and Tap a must. (LEGS!) BELT TO C#

EVELYN OAKLEIGH: (Male – 30s-50s) Rich, High British Royalty with Strong vocals and Fearless NERDY movement. Intended to marry Hope but ends up with Reno. HIGH G.

CAPTAIN: (Male – 30s-50s) Comedic, good mover-singer. Must understand physical comedy. Broad Actor.

REVERAND HENRY T. DOBSON: (Male – 30s-50s) A guest aboard the ship. Character Singing. ANGELS: (Female – 20s) Sexy, Rockette look and dance talent level who sing well. All vocal types. 5’6 or taller.

SAILORS: (Male – 20s-30s) Strong dancer/singers (tap a must) Physically fit. All vocal types. 5’10 or taller. Especially seeking two Asian tap dancers to be in the ensemble and play Luke and John.

Show Runs: March 13th, 2018 – March 25th, 2018

SYNOPSIS 'Calam' dresses like a man, totes a gun and drives the Deadwood City stagecoach. Well-meaning, but disaster-prone, she tries to help the local saloon proprietor out of a jam by promising to fetch a musichall star from Chicago. A hilarious comedy, it nevertheless has many tender moments and some very famous numbers, including Secret Love, Black Hills of Dakota, Deadwood Stage and Windy City.

CALAMITY JANE: (Female, 20s-30s, Any Ethnicity) A woman who dresses like a man, not to prove a point, but because it is comfortable. She, however, is fully female and desires to be seen as such. A sharp shooter and a great horseback rider, Calamity is one of the peace-keepers in town. Annie Oakley type. Not the Doris Day version. F3-F5 - Strong Belter

WILD BILL HICKOCK: (Male, 30s-40s, Any Ethnicity) A handsome figure, professional gambler and peace-officer who is in love with Calamity, but afraid to show it. Ruggedly handsome. Bb2-E4 - Baritone

LT. DANNY GILMARTIN: (Male, 20s, Any Ethnicity) The Second Lieutenant attached to nearby Fort Scully. The tall, handsome, the man Calamity dreams about. B2-D4 - Bari-tenor

KATIE BROWN/HELEN OF TROY: (Female, 20s, Any Ethnicity) a stage-struck young lady of considerable beauty and talent. Adelaide’s maid who poses as the actress to make her stage debut. She captures the affection of all the men in Deadwood City. F#3-D5 - Mezzo-Soprano with Belt-mix

HENRY MILLER: (Male, 30s-50s, Any Ethnicity) the proprietor of the Golden Garter, he is usually one jump ahead of a nervous breakdown. Character & Ensemble Singing

SUSAN: (Female, 20s, Any Ethnicity) the young, friendly and pretty niece of Henry Miller who is in his charge. She is love obsessed and decides on Francis as soon as she sees him. Character and Ensemble Singing

FRANCIS FRYER: (Male, 20s/30s, Any Ethnicity) The song-and-dance man from New York. Mistaken for a woman in his ad, he is forced to dress as one for a performance. C2-E4 - Dancer. Bari-tenor

ADELAIDE ADAMS/JO, QUEEN OF SHEBA: (Female, 30s/40s, Any Ethnicity) Adelaide is the Vaudeville star who Katie impersonates. A beautiful woman who fears she may be past her prime. Jo, Queen of Sheeba is the bartender at the Golden Garter. Often the voice of reason, often the voice of disaster. F#3-D5 - Mezzo Soprano with Belt

ENSEMBLE: (Male & Female, varying ages) Singer/dancers with great harmonizing skills and character acting chops. Will play multiple roles, including: Charlie, a prospector - Rattlesnake, a Stage Coach Driver – Hank, a soldier - Hugh Kingsley, Adelaide’s manager and lover – Colonel Stark, a commander at Fort Scully – Dolly/Venus, local woman – Molly/Aphrodite, local woman – Harriet/Cleopatra, local woman. etc. Strong Dancer/Movers. Varying vocal ranges.
