BREAKDOWN
Who killed the great American novelist Arthur Whitney? Found dead in his isolated, rural mansion on the night of his surprise birthday party, every guest has a motive – their dirty little secrets the unwilling and barely veiled subject of the author’s bestsellers. Was the killer his loopy, scene-stealing widow? His overly curious niece? The too-friendly psychiatrist? Or the glamorous, but menacing, prima ballerina? One actor plays the overwhelmed detective while another takes on all of the suspects, creating a zany, musical comedy whodunit. Murder for Two is the perfect blend of music, mayhem and mystery guaranteed to keep you guessing – and laughing – until the very last note.
Both actors need to be transformational, clear, and precise in their work. Should be physically facile and very specific. Actors who have played in previous productions of MURDER FOR TWO should bring what they already know to the table but be ready to incorporate new ideas as they've discovered in the rehearsal process.
Seeking actors who can play truthfully, turn on a dime, and go over the top when and if necessary. Material is based in Music Hall, panto, musical revue, murder mystery satirical-spoof and farcical traditions, but is unique to itself. Both actors need to be skilled pianists, as well as good actor-singers who move dexterously and well.
SEEKING:
Marcus Moscowitz
(Male, mid 20s – mid 30s) Any ethnicity. He is an ambitious young officer Ernest, trying to be clever, wants to get ahead. Believes in following protocol, playing by the rules. Also provides voices for two characters in flashback (The Chief - Marcus's grizzled boss; Vanessa - Marcus's former partner). Needs to be skilled pianist, as well as good actor-singer who moves dexterously and well.
The Suspects
(Male, late 20s-mid 40s) Plays multiple characters throughout, including Dahlia Whitney (the murder victim's loopy widow), Murray and Barb Flandon (the Whitney's bickering but libidinous neighbors), Steph Whitey (an overeager grad student), Barette Lewis (a self-incriminating ballerina), Dr. Griff (a friendly, needy. local psychiatrist), Timmy, Yonkers, and Skid (the three remaining members of an antiquated boys' choir), and Henry Vivaldi (a fire fighter, who is a late arrival). Needs to be skilled pianist, as well as good actor-singer who moves dexterously and well.
