BREAKDOWN

MOBY DICK

SEEKING:

THE FATES provide contrapuntal feminine energy & voice to the overwhelming and, at times, destructive masculine ethos of our story. Ever present, they sonically underscore the action of the play and take on various roles as needed— Whales, Wind, Waves, Wives, Widows, & Others—inexorably driving Ahab and his crew to their immutable doom. Strong singer, mover, with some elements of circus.

STARBUCK is The Pequod’s intrepid 1st mate. He is even-keeled and pragmatic— wants to kill whales for his living, not be killed by them for theirs. He yearns to return home to wife and son. Can he swerve the unswerving Ahab and bring The Pequod and its hold full of whale oil safely back to Nantucket?
