Breakdown

The lakeside rental Veronica has managed to afford is a far cry from the idyllic getaway she and her children so desperately need. And the disheveled property owner, Hogan, has problems of his own – problems that Veronica is inevitably – and irrevocably – pulled into. A portrait of two strangers bound together by circumstance and the struggle for connection in an imperfect world.

Seeking:

VERONICA:
Mid 30s-early 40s. African-American. A nurse and single mother whose life is coming apart at the seams. She’s just lost her job, and is struggling to continue to do right by her kids. Putting on a tough, brave face for the world, she’s more afraid of slipping into the abyss than she lets on. Angry at her situation and exhausted by the constant effort to be strong.

JARED:
7 years old. African-American. Veronica’s son. A good, sweet-natured kid.

The following role has been CAST. Actors will be considered for role understudy and also for possible replacements if needed:

HOGAN:
[CAST] Mid 40s-early 50s. A disheveled man, constantly down on his luck. Chronically underemployed and semi-homeless. Talkative and friendly, but in the blunt, obtuse way of the oddly socialized. His glass-half-full positivity is a pretty unconvincing mask for the baseline desperation that informs all his actions. An unstable character, capable of surprising bursts of rage.
