CONTRACT

LOA Actors: $386 weekly minimum, every hour over 25 hours per week will be paid at $15/hour; includes pension & health. Average 5 overtime hours per week of rehearsal.

Using our signature performance style, Panoramic Theatre, this unique production of King Lear hearkens back to the touring productions of Shakespeare’s company in which all actors will play
multiple roles.


PREPARATION

Please prepare a classical piece—preferably in verse. For Female-Identifying actors only, please prepare two brief classical pieces, one for each cis-gendered role. As this is an unusual request, pieces do not have to be memorized.

ASMs.)


OTHER DATES

Rehearsal: May 4–31, 2020 (Central Park, 1-6pm); also selected put-in daytime rehearsals in other venues.

Performance: June 2–August 2 (Central Park, Carl Schurz Park, The Battery, MetroTech Commons, Brooklyn Bridge Park). All performances will be in the evening.

BREAKDOWN

All actors submitted should be skilled with classical text and must be experienced with broadsword and hand-to-hand stage combat.

SEEKING:

Actor Track 1
(Male-Identifying, 65+). Plays the following:

Lear [CAST]: King of Britain, father of Goneril, Regan, and Cordelia. Tough, self-centered,
proud, later broken.


Actor Track 2
(Male-Identifying, 55+). Plays the following:

Gloucester [CAST]: Earl of Britain, father of Edgar and Edmund. Political, sharp, narrowminded, focused.


Actor Track 3
(Female-Identifying, 30s – 50s, any ethnicity). Plays the following:

Goneril: Eldest daughter of Lear, wife of Albany. Cold, manipulative, bitter, loathes her
husband.

Cornwall: Husband of Regan. Fiery, passionate, acts without foresight, loves his wife.


Actor Track 4
(Female-Identifying, 30s – 50s, any ethnicity). Plays the following:

Regan: Middle daughter of Lear, wife of Cornwall. Narcissistic, predatory, knows how to manipulate people with her sexuality, loves her husband passionately.

Albany: Husband of Goneril. Honorable, logical, loyal, resigned to disappointment in his marriage.


Actor Track 5
(Male-Identifying, 30s – 40s, any ethnicity). Plays the following:

Edmund: Bastard son of Gloucester, brother of Edgar. Egotistical, ambitious, two-faced.

Kent (Caius): Earl of Britain. Loyal, friend of Gloucester. Sturdy, loyal, generous, determined, experienced in combat.


Actor Track 6
(Female-Identifying, 20s – 30s, any ethnicity). Plays the following:

Cordelia: Youngest daughter of Lear. Passionate, idealistic, champion of the truth, sympathetic.

Fool: Fool to Lear. Smart, musical, willing speak the truth without fear of consequences.


Actor Track 7
(Male-Identifying, late 20s – 30s, any ethnicity). Plays the following:

Edgar (Poor Tom): Son of Gloucester, brother of Edmund. Honest, naïve, forthright, brave, clever.

Oswalt: Servant to Goneril. Loyal, abettor, loyal only for personal gain.
