BREAKDOWN
JITNEY
SYNOPSIS: A ride of redemption and resilience: In 1977, as licensed cabs refuse to service Pittsburgh’s predominantly Black “Hill District,” a group of Black men run an unlicensed taxi company — the OG Uber, or a “jitney.” But when the city threatens to shut down the business and owner Jim Becker’s disgraced son returns after a 20-year prison sentence, potent secrets are revealed and the fragile threads binding these people together may come undone at last. For his first production since being named OSF’s Artistic Director, Tim Bond directs a formidable cast in August Wilson’s masterwork. Overflowing with the auteur’s signature poetry and hilarious banter, Jitney promises to be an unforgettable celebration of community, family bonds, and the endurance of the human spirit.
SEEKING:
[RENA] She/Her. 20s - Early 30s. Black. Youngblood's girlfriend and the mother of his young son, Jesse. Passionate yet down to earth and very practical. She has vulnerability and humor. Rena and Youngblood have a very loving relationship, and she’s fighting for them to stay together.
NOTE: This role will also understudy the role of ‘OPAL’ in FAT HAM. [OPAL]: She is one of Juicy’s only friends. She loves him and worries about him. A kind of Ophelia. The dates of that production are as follows:
First Rehearsal: January 21, 2025
First Preview: March 11, 2025
Closing: June 27, 2025
Actors in this production may also be asked to understudy other roles in the productions of SHANE or THE MERRY WIVES OF WINDSOR.
