Please prepare 32-ish bars of an appropriate song. Feel free to sing from the show.

We are looking for Latino, Latina, and African American actors who sing very well. Several will also need to be strong dancers.

USNAVI DE LA VEGA is Cast (understudy will come from the ensemble)

NINA ROSARIO – (Puerto Rican, early-mid 20s Amazing pop mix belter to F5, strong mover) Daughter of Kevin and Camilia, Nina is the only one from her family and group of friends who has made it to college.

KEVIN ROSARIO – (Puerto Rican, 40s to early 50s. Strong singer to E4) Born and raised in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, Kevin immigrated to New York City with Camilia. Stubborn. Providing for his family is everything.

CAMILIA ROSARIO – (Puerto Rican, 40s. Strong alto to B4) Co-owns Rosario Car and Limousine with her husband, Kevin. Also from Arecibo, Puerto Rico,she is cool-headed and keeps a subtle yet strong leash on Kevin.

BENNY- (African American, mid 20’s strong singer to Ab4. Very good mover) Was once a street punk and hoodlum. Now is a responsible, hard-working young man. Benny and Usnavi are best friends.

VANESSA – (Latina, mid 20s. Amazing pop mix belter to an E5. Strong dancer) Strong and intelligent. She grew up with Benny and Usnavi. Vanessa dreams of leaving to create her own life away from her family challenges.

SONNY – (Latino, looks to be late teens. Strong singer to a Bb4. Very good mover) Usnavi’s younger cousin, he often hangs out on the street with his friend Graffiti Pete but avoids trouble. Sonny is an extremely intelligent young man; he needs guidance to avoid ending up a street punk.

ABUELA CLAUDIA – (Latina, mid to late 60s. Alto. Belts to C5) Claudia raised Usnavi. She emigrated from Cuba when she was very young. She is kind and the clear matriarch of the neighborhood.

DANIELA – (Latina, late 20’s early 30s, Alto C5. Very good mover) Owns Daniela’s Salon. She is savvy, quick-witted, brassy and outspoken. She is the gossip queen of the neighborhood.

CARLA – (Ethnically ambiguous, mid-20s, strong singer and a very good mover) Hairdresser at Daniela’s Salon. Born and raised in Queens. Devoted to her family and friends.

GRAFFITI PETE – (Ethnically ambiguous, looks to be late teens or early 20s, very strong modern/lyrical hip-hop dancer, ensemble singer) He hangs out on the streets, dancing to his boom box music and spray painting/tagging any surface he can.

PIRAGUA GUY is Cast.

ENSEMBLE - (Latino, Latina, African American, and Ethnically Ambiguous 18 to early 30's) Strong modern/lyrical hip-hop dancers who can sing.
