BREAKDOWN

Follows the intertwining lives of Imelda Romualdez Marcos, Ferdinand Marcos, his political rival Ninoy Aquino, and the woman who raised Imelda, Estrella Cumpas, against the political backdrop of the Marcoses' rise to power and fortune in the Philippines, and ultimately, the Marcoses’ expulsion by the People Power Revolution of 1986. Set in the clubs of the world’s rich and famous that Imelda loved and frequented, the piece follows a period of history from poor beginnings in the 1950s to the height of her corruption and power in the 1980s, when Imelda and her family were forced to flee the Philippines by the EDSA Revolution.

SEEKING:

Note: Multiple ethnicities are found throughout the population of the Republic of the Philippines from centuries of migrant arrivals from China, Spain, and Southeast Asia, among other nations. Producers state, “Because of the specific world of the play, we are particularly interested in considering performers to play Filipino characters.” All must have GREAT POP SINGING VOICES and move well.

IMELDA MARCOS & IMELDA ALTERNATE: 20s-40s. Filipina. Charismatic, complex. People everywhere are drawn to her superficial magnetism. At first, we meet her as a teenager, following her rags to riches story. To eventually becoming a powerful, morally bankrupt First Lady of the Philippines. Strong pop singing voice.
