Story line: It's 1954, and Sam Phillips meets the man who will one day be known as The King. Together they develop the music and find a sound that changes both their lives. HEARTBREAK HOTEL is a the prequel to the Tony Award Winning MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET.

BREAKDOWN

ELVIS PRESLEY: Caucasian Male; Early 20's. Actor must look, sound, walk and talk like Elvis in his 20’s. Actor must embody his persona when he sings and become him as he plays his music. Must have the charm of a shy, young Elvis as well as the handsome, charismatic star while on stage. Must be an incredible and proficient Rockabilly musician.

SAM PHILLIPS: Caucasian Male; 30's - 40's. Strong, dramatic actor; The “Godfather of Rock’n’Roll” and founder of Sun Records who discovered Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, and many others including Roy Orbison and B.B. King. A towering and charismatic figure in American music. Minimal singing role. Trombone skills a plus.

DEWEY PHILLIPS: Caucasian Male; 35 - 50. Narrator of our story with a larger than life, humorous, and extreme Radio personality. Must be an incredible actor. Reed or Horn proficiency a plus. Minimal singing role.

BB KING / IKE TURNER / OTHERS: African American Male; 30's - 40's. Actor/Musician who will play a variety of roles including Roy Brown, B.B. King, Lloyd Price, Chuck Berry, Jimmy Reed, and others. Extreme personality and strong stage presence. Must have a deep sense of swing and groove to their playing and have a feel for Blues, R&B, and Rock and Roll.

SCOTTY MOORE: Caucasian Male; Early 20's. One of the Blue Moon Boys, who were the main creators of what became known as Rockabilly music. Actor/Musician in his mid 20’s, with proficient and impeccable Rockabilly guitar skills.

BILL BLACK: Caucasian Male; Early 20's. One of the Blue Moon Boys, who were the main creators of what became known as Rockabilly music. Actor/Musician in his mid 20’s, with proficient and impeccable Rockabilly upright bass skills.

DJ FONTANA: Caucasian Male; Early 20's. One of the Blue Moon Boys, who were the main creators of what became known as Rockabilly music. Actor/Musician in his mid 20’s, with proficient and impeccable Rockabilly drum skills.

COLONEL TOM PARKER: Caucasian Male; 40's - 50's. Strong dramatic actor. A former circus barker who “stole” Elvis from Sam Phillips and ruled Elvis’s life. Must have a towering and highly impressionable presence.

DIXIE LOCKE: Caucasian Female; Early 20's. The beautiful, young, fresh-faced girlfriend of Elvis Presley’s who was strong enough to encourage Elvis to play the kind of music he became known for. Strong, dramatic actress with incredible vocal skills.

MARION KEISKER: Caucasian Female; 25 - 35. Sam Phillips’ beautiful Assistant at Sun Records with whom Sam had a long affair. Seeking a strong Actress with an air of glamour with vocal skills. Any instrument skills a plus.

ROSETTA THARPE / OTHERS: African American Female; 30's. Actress will play multiple R&B stars and must have strong gospel stylings. Must be able to harmonize naturally and be able to switch between vocal parts by ear and quickly. Must be able to improvise and ad lib blues and gospel licks/riffs. Guitar and/or Reeds skills are a plus but not a requirement.

RUTH BROWN / OTHERS: African American Female; 30 - 45. Actress will play multiple R&B stars and must have strong gospel stylings. Must be able to harmonize naturally and be able to switch between vocal parts by ear and quickly. Must be able to improvise and ad lib blues and gospel licks/riffs. Guitar and/or Reeds skills are a plus but not a requirement

SALLY WILBOURN / OTHERS: Caucasian Female; 25 - 35. Female to play a variety of roles including Sally Wilbourn, an Assistant to Sam Phillips at Sun Records. Actress also plays Alice From Dallas, the key female figure in Elvis’ betrayal of Dixie Locke, who became known as the first Rock and Roll Groupie. Strong pianist/vocalist with authentic R&B influence. The playing requires copying a Ray Charles / Billy Preston feel with the ability and creativity to improvise melodies and twist them when playing reprises and underscoring.
