Seeking:
Electra:
Late 20s to late 30s. An exciting voice, a must. Electra is earthy, volatile and fanatical to avenge her father’s murder at the hands of her mother, Clytemnestra. She is inflexible when it comes to negotiations and would risk everything, including her own life, to bring the killers to justice. She is absolute in her beliefs and lacks compassion of anyone else’s points of view but her own. She is burning with anger and resentment, but uses an attorney’s logic, and powerful language, to demolish her mother’s excuses. She loves obsessively and hates obsessively. She awaits the return of her brother, Orestes, as if awaiting the messiah.
Seeking a classically trained actress of tremendous power.
Chrysothemis:
Late 20s. Sister to Electra and daughter of Clytemnestra. Well bred and well spoken, though she too has suffered family losses. She has learned to compromise and keep her deeper feelings to herself in an act of self-preservation. Cautious, certainly in comparison to her sister. Still, she tries with all her might to convince Electra to abandon her obsessive need for revenge and to protect her future and to save her life. Chrysothemis is a woman watching her beloved sister self-destruct, and trying desperately to save her, all the while looking over her shoulder to see if she is being watched.
Seeking a classically trained actress.
Orestes:
In his 20s. Charismatic, athletic, masculine. He is both a Greek hero and a criminal. A prince from birth, he is a man willing and anxious to murder his own mother. Arrogant, dangerous---an ancient version of a “biker.” Classical training absolutely necessary.
Chorus:
Aged 40-60. Women who are individuals. Powerful, and emotional with classical stage “chops.” Must move well, and have a secure sense of rhythm.
