Breakdown

A futuristic post-gringo adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Henry IV Part 1. A Site Specific Production.

Type of Actor(s): Equity (AEA) and non-Equity, San Diego LOCAL (must live or have housing and transportation within 50 miles of La Jolla). All characters are Latino unless otherwise specified

Roles Available:

1. EL TOMAS (Male. 50’s) The King of Barrio Hotspur, ruthless and tough but a cautious ruler.

2. LIL GUS/REPORTER #1/COP #2, (Female. Late 30’s – 40’s, White) Lil Gus - A gringa reject. Thinks she is a Chicano homeboy thief. Reporter # 1 – a news reporter at the mayor’s press conference. Cop #2 – white washed, by the book cop.

3. SOTO BOY/MEXICLOP #1 (Male. 30’s -50’s) The right hand man to El Hank. Soto Boy – tough but cautious Homeboy. MexiClop #1 – traditional, old school Mexican. Also a Cyclops.

4. SIR BLUNT/MEXICLOP #2/COP #1 (Male 30’s -50’s) Tough, no nonsense homeboy and drug lord for El Hank. A loyal sodier. Mexiclop #2– traditional, old school Mexican. Also a Cyclops. Cop #1 – white washed, by the book cop.

5. NAVARRO /EL MAGO/CITY SUIT (Male. 30’s.) Navarro - Nerdy, white-washed attorney. El Mago - Flamboyant Cuban Santero with accent and boas! City Suit – a whitewashed, by the book politician.

6. LA MAYAN/SMOKIE (Female. early 30’s) La Mayan - Amazonian Chicana. Tough, athletic and noble. Smokie - a young, dumb Chola.

7. PRECIOSA/LA GATA (Female. Mid 20’s - early 30’s) Preciosa – a sexy, tough club owner. A gypsy of some unspecified race. Elegant and no nonsense. La gata –a young dumb chola.

8. TIXOC/LOCOS R US (Male. 20’s) Tixoc - A common street thug. Locos R Us - A crazy street killer. Straight up loco.

9. JOHNNY/YOUNG THUG/REPORTER #2 (Male. 20’s.) El Henry’s younger bother. A good looking kid, but not really tough enough, savvy enough or strong enough. Young Thug – a common street thug. Reporter #2 – A news reporter at the mayor’s press conference.
