Prepare an uptempo number and a ballad from the Golden Age (1950-1963) musical. Or you may prepare the music selection from the show as posted on the theatre website beginning November 20.

Bring sheet music in correct key; accompanist provided but may not transpose.

All bring picture and resume, stapled together.

PRINCIPALS:

Paul Berthalet

(late 30s) a former soldier, now a puppeteer in the Circus. Bitter.

Strong/powerful legit baritone. Also does voices for five puppet characters. No dance requirement.

Marco the Magnificent

(late 30s, 40s) A Magician. Handsome. Full of himself. Strong high legit baritone. Excellent dancer – extended ‘Spanish’ Broadway dance number. The kind of guy who never fails with the girls.

B.F. Schlegl

(50s/60s) The hearty, gruff, and also loveable owner of The Grand Imperial Cirque de Paris – a flea-bitten touring Carnival. Baritone/Bass Baritone. A bear of a man .

Lili

(19) Young, naïve, wide-eyed innocent. Eager, with great energy and an inner glow. An orphan joining the Carnival with nothing but her straw suitcase to her name. Lyric Soprano.

The Incomparable Rosalie

(late 30s) Alto. Marco’s assistant and lover. A broad with a heart of gold – but tough. Really tough! And loves a drink now and again.

Grobert/Dr Glass:

(50s) Baritone. Doubles as Grobert, the not very nice souvenir seller at the Carnival – and as Dr. Glass, the very proper, very rich, Viennese (with accent) Veterinarian whom Rosalie might marry.

Greta

(15) – Legit Soprano. A Young girl, vendor, other circus skills.

CHORUS/ENSEMBLE

(all chorus will also appear as cast, if they have a named chorus role)

Looking especially for chorus members with circus skills: Jugglers, silks, trapeze, wire walking, unicycling, stilts , clown etc. Also looking for one chorus member who can play onstage Trumpet in the Parade (well), as designated in score.

Ensemble play various circus performers, The Bluebird Girls, Roustabouts, Harem Girls, A Strong Man, Clowns, Gypsies, etc.
