A singer and aspiring actress; the star and permanent fixture of an underground nightclub in Weimar Berlin. An outrageous sense of humor, an incredible drive to live her life as wildly as possible, an enigmatic and persuasive personality on stage, and an uncanny ability to make light of darkness.

CLIFFORD BRADSHAW
Male Identified, 20s-30s. Baritone, A2-E4.
An aspiring novelist with high ideals, high expectations, a fear of and a desire to know himself, and an aggressive case of writer’s block.

MAX
Male Identified, 20s-30s.
The corrupt owner of the Kit Kat Klub: an underground nightclub in an economic depression.

ERNST LUDWIG
Male Identified, 20s-30s. Vocal range flexible.
A young, earnest, friendly, and incredibly loveable German. He is sociable, generous, and an up and comer in a political party coming to power; fiercely proud of his country.

FRAULEIN SCHNEIDER
Female Identified, 40s-70s. Contralto, D3-Ab4.
A pragmatic widower; and a landlady renting out rooms. Wise, a good businesswoman, a dry sense of humor, and cautiously optimistic.

HERR SCHULTZ
Male Identified, 40s-70s. Tenor, G2-F4.
A Jewish man renting a room from Fraulein Schneider. Kind, generous, full of life, and optimistic.

EMCEE
Male Identified, 20s-30s. Tenor, C4-C#5
The host and the Master of Ceremonies at the Kit Kat Klub. An irreverent and captivating performer with a raunchy sense of humor. Strong singer and mover, comedic; chooses to channel his struggles with the political climate through biting parody.

FRAULEIN KOST
Female Identified, 30s-40s. Mezzo Soprano, Ab3-F5.
A woman who rents a room from Fraulein Schneider; strong, intelligent, confident, and making her way through the depression in any way she can.

THE KIT KIT GIRLS
Female Identified, 20s-40s.
The women who work in the Kit Kat Klub. Strong singer/dancers that wield their femininity and sexuality with power and aggression.

THE KIT KAT BOYS
Male Identified, 20s-40s.
The men who work in the Kit Kat Klub. Strong singer/dancers that feel comfortable living in both masculine and feminine movement.

THE ENSEMBLE
Male and Female Identified, 20s-40s. Strong singers of all vocal types.
The patrons of the Klub, sailors, shop owners, and waitresses of Berlin; people attempting to make ends meet and searching for stability in a tumultuous time.
