MALE AND FEMALE ENSEMBLE: To represent Miners, Police Officers, Royal Ballet School Members and to potentially understudy principal roles.

Preparation
Please bring a picture and resume, and a song selection to sing in the style of the show. You are always welcome to sing from the show. Dancers should have both character shoes and flats. Please bring Ballet shoes, if you have them.

MALE AND FEMALE ENSEMBLE: To represent Miners, Police Officers, Royal Ballet School Members and to potentially understudy principal roles.

BILLY: Male, 10-13 years old. Excellent actor, singer and dancer (classical, jazz, tap) He's a kind, sensitive kid with a tough, tenacious side too. Billy accidentally discovers his passion for dance and finds himself stuck between pleasing his family and allowing himself to dream big and follow a dream. Range: E3-C5

MRS. WILKINSON: Female, 30-40s. Billy's tough-nosed dancing teacher. She doesn't suffer fools gladly. Must have great comedic skills and display warmth & compassion. Must be and excellent singer, be able to tap & be a strong mover/dancer. Range: Gb3-Bb5

DAD: Male, 40s. Billy’s dad. Leading actor. 40s. Must sing well. Geordie miner. Working class, single parent. Trying to do the best for his family in difficult times. He's at the end of his tether and feeling put upon and sorry for himself. He's grown emotionally hardened and he's not the most open-minded fellow, but he has a soft spot. Range: A2-Eb4.

GRANDMA: Female, 60-70s. Must sing. Good dance or movement skills. Tap if possible. Good comedy skills required. Character actress. Range: F#3-F#4.

TONY: Male, 20s. Billy’s brother. Geordie miner. Excellent singing voice. Outspoken, loud, tough, angry and up for a fight. Range D3-F4.

MICHAEL: Male, 10-13 years old. Great comic actor, singer and dancer. Billy's fun and care-free friend. Rambunctious and funny but sensitive. For kicks, he likes to dress up in women's clothes. Range: A#3 a B4

DEBBIE: Female 9-12 yrs. old. Good comic actress. Mrs. Wilkinson's daughter. Takes ballet with Billy. She can be sort of snotty and argumentative, but mostly it's just her way of flirting.

GEORGE: Male, Late 30-50s. Billy’s Boxing teacher. Geordie miner. Excellent comedy skills. Friend of Dad’s. Spokesman of the miners. Community spirited. Working class. Singing not essential. No tap required.
