MARY – 20s, character portrayed as female, mixed-race (South Asian/White). Our heroine. Positive attitude, figuring out where she fits in the world, occasional fits of imposter syndrome. Strong dancer, experience in Indian styles of Bhangra, Bollywood, and Kathak a plus. Mezzo with strong mix-belt and strong mix (F3-E5).
PREETI – 20s (as cast) character portrayed as female, Punjabi/South Asian-American. A no-nonsense sophomore who's proud of Bhangra’s Punjabi roots. Strong dancer, experience in Indian styles of Bollywood; Bhangra; Kathak; Hip-Hop. Pop mezzo with strong mix-belt and strong mix (G3-B4)
BILLY – 20s (as cast) character portrayed as male, Afro-Latine/Latine. The team DJ, Mary’s love interest, a music nerd who shares Mary’s journey navigating multiple cultures. Strong dancer. Baritenor with pop sensibilities (A2-G4).
REKHA – 40s-60s (as cast) character portrayed as female, Indian immigrant who has lived in the US for 20 years. A Bollywood performer turned restaurateur. Mary’s prickly mentor. Strong Dancer; specifically in the classical Indian dance form, Kathak; and experience in Bollywood; and Bhangra. Bright alto (F#3-C5).
LILY – 20s (as cast) character portrayed as female, Black, Muslim. A shy hijab-wearing math nerd. Strong mover with solid Ballet and jazz experience. Lyric soprano with solid mix and strong mix-belt(Bb3-Eb5).
WALLACE – 50s-60s (as cast) character portrayed as male, White. Sunita's faculty advisor, a widower trying to get back into the world. Strong mover. Baritenor (Eb3-F4).
NOAH – 20s (as cast) character portrayed as male, Jewish. An adorably over-eager team player who makes up for dance skill with enthusiasm. Strong mover. Lyric tenor (Bb2-Ab4).
