PREPARATION
Prepare EITHER one of the following: 1) A small scene from the Jean-Claude van Itallie translation of 'The Cherry Orchard; OR 2) one Shakespeare monologue; OR 3) one monologue from a Richard Wilbur translation of Moliere. AND if auditioning for Shakespeare, also prepare 16 bars of a song to be sung a cappella. TOTAL AUDITION TIME NOT TO EXCEED TWO MINUTES

THE CHERRY ORCHARD

Lyubov
40' s - 50's. An actress and landowner of a beautiful Russian country estate in 1904. She is genuine, loving, and also aristocratic and self-involved.
Lopahkin
30's-40's. A wealthy merchant born a serf. He tries to save the estate by proposing to cut down the cherry orchard and divide the property into rental properties. He is in love with Lyubov since a child.
Yepihodov
20's. A Russian country clerk. He has two 'left feet'. Plays guitar
Gayev
50's. Lyubov's brother. Aristocratic. Heartbroken at potential loss of estate. Ineffectual at planning to save it.
