NANCY – 50s-60s, a dreamer and an optimist, would have liked to have seen the world but was a dutiful wife and mother instead. Eager to have an adventure in her golden years. (CAST)

CHARLIE – 50s-60s, Nancy’s husband. Straddles the line between pragmatism and pessimism, ready to settle into a restful retirement. (CAST)

LESLIE – 30s-40s, a sea creature, strong, virile, and in his prime. Ready to challenge anything resembling a threat.

SARAH – 30s-40s, a sea creature, Leslie’s mate. Sociable, curious about the world around her, but loyal to Leslie.

SEEKING:

ABASIAMA UFOT - 60’s, Nigerian. A splay-footed, gap-toothed woman. Thinner Ibibio accent. Fluent in both Ibibio and English. Strong, tough, and fiercely protective of her daughters, Iniabasi and Adiagha. Feels regret about sending her daughter Iniabasi back to Nigeria to be raised by her father (Abasiama’s ex-husband) but does her best to put on a brave face.

INIABASI EKPEYOUNG – 36, Nigerian. A bow-legged, gap-toothed woman. Thicker Ibibio accent. Fluent in both Ibibio and English. Excited but also overwhelmed by her trip to America to meet her mother. Sweet, generous, and trying hard to conceal the resentment she feels towards her mother for sending her away as a child.

ADIAGHA UFOT – 30, Nigerian-American. A splay-footed, gap-toothed woman. An amalgamated accent [central Massachusetts and Ibibio]. She is fluent in English, hears Ibibio but has a very limited speaking capacity. She is diplomatic, a natural mediator, and has a good sense of humor.

MANFORD - 17, male, Chinese-American. Intense, scrappy, runs into trouble, attacks the rim, with a ruthless crossover. Not tall. More Allen Iverson than Jeremy Lin.

CONNIE - 25, female, Chinese-American, Manford's cousin and UC Berkeley grad student. Level-headed, big picture. A Chris Paul/Klay Thompson type.

WEN CHANG - 43, male, Chinese, coach of Beijing University's men's basketball team. Observant, efficient. Favors three pointers over aggressive inside shots. Tim Duncan would appreciate his energy. (His English is formal, but relatively unaccented.)

SAUL - 52, male, Jewish, coach of University of San Francisco's men's basketball team. A shit-talking, shotblocking, washed up Larry Byrd.
