AMAHL AND THE NIGHT VISITORS

SEEKING:

AMAHL – Character portrayed is male, 12 years old, BIPOC. Boy soprano, C4-A5. A shepherd boy who walks with the aid of a crutch, living in poverty with his mother. He has a tendency to tell tall tales which gets him in trouble. When three kings show up at their door on their way to visit the newly-born Christ child, his life is forever changed.

AMAHL’S MOTHER – THIS ROLE IS CAST, Seeking understudy only. Character portrayed is female, any ethnicity, 40s, 50s. Mezzo, A3-A5

KING KASPAR – Character portrayed is male, 30 - 50s, any ethnicity. Tenor, B2-G#4. Eccentric and kindly, especially towards Amahl.

KING MELCHIOR – Character portrayed is male, 30 - 50s, any ethnicity. Baritone, A2-Eb4. Compassionate and empathetic, he reacts with kindness when Amahl’s mother attempts to steal some gold to help her son.

KING BALTHAZAR – Character portrayed is male, age 30s -50s, Black. Bass, E2-Eb4. He shows interest in Amahl and his mother, inquiring about their lives, and patiently answers Amahl’s questions about being a king.

THE PAGE – Character portrayed is male, 20s - 40, any ethnicity. Bass, Db3-E4. A page waiting upon the three kings on their way to visit the newly-born Christ child. He catches Amahl’s mother when she attempts to steal some of the kings’ gold.
