Set in a 1940 radio station and retells the story of George Bailey made famous by the Frank Capra film, utilizing a handful of actors who become all of the characters in the story.

Jake Laurents: Lead, Male, 20-39 - a good-looking, charismatic, all-American good-guy. Plays George Bailey (portrayed by James Stewart in the film version). Ethnicity: White / European Descent

Prospero The rightful duke of Milan. After his brother, Antonio, seized his title and property, Prospero was exiled with his daughter and eventually found refuge on an island.

Miranda, Prospero's daughter. She has been on the island with her father for 12 years — since she was 3 years old.

Antonio, Prospero's younger brother, who is now the duke of Milan. He had plotted against Prospero years earlier and now convinces Sebastian to murder his brother, the king of Naples.

Ariel. A spirit of the air, he assists Prospero in seeking retribution over his enemies.

Caliban. The offspring of the witch Sycorax and the devil. Prospero has made Caliban his servant or slave, and in response, Caliban plots to murder Prospero.

Ferdinand. The son of the king of Naples. During the storm, he was separated from the rest of the king's party, met Miranda, and fell in love with her.

Alonso. The king of Naples. He believes his son has died and is overjoyed to later find him. Alonso is repentant for the pain he caused Prospero in the past.

Sebastian, Alonso's brother. He is easily led into planning his own brother's (the king's) murder.

Gonzalo. An elderly counselor who saves Prospero's and Miranda's lives when they are exiled. He provides a sense of hope and optimism when Ferdinand is lost.

Stefano. The king's butler. He arrives on the island drunk and quickly becomes involved in a plot to murder Prospero.

Trinculo. The king's jester. When Stefano arrives with wine, Trinculo joins him in drinking and then agrees to a plot to murder Prospero.

Francisco and Adrian. Two of the king's lords. They try to offer hope and protection to Alonso.

Boatswain. The ship's petty officer. He is in charge of the deck crew, the rigging, and the anchor. He must try to keep the boat afloat during the storm, even when the king's party makes demands upon his time.

JERRY LEE LEWIS - 20s-early 30s; male; singer/pianist; he was rock & roll’s legendary piano prodigy and celebrated “Last Man Standing.” A superb piano player. Fun, energetic; comic skills a plus. In the production, Jerry Lee Lewis sings: “Real Wild Child”, “Great Balls Of Fire” and “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On”.

CARL PERKINS - mid 20s; male; singer/guitar player (lead guitar); he was the American pioneer of rockabilly music and best known for his song “Blue Suede Shoes”; An excellent lead guitarist. An amp will be provided. In the production, Carl Perkins sings: “Matchbox” “Who Do You Love?” “My Babe” “See You Later, Alligator”

JOHNNY CASH – late 20s-late 30s; male; singer/guitar player. Johnny Cash at the dawn of his epic career. Plays guitar; tall. In the production, Johnny Cash sings: “Folsom Prison Blues” “Sixteen Tons” “I Walk The Line” “Riders In The Sky”

SAM PHILLIPS (Mid-30s-40s) “Father of Rock’n’Roll” and founder of Sun Records who discovered Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, and many others including Roy Orbison and B.B. King; a towering and charismatic figure in American music; for the auditions, actors will be asked to prepare sides from the show.

DYANNE (20s-early 30s) ALL ETHNICITIES ENCOURAGED TO SUBMIT. Excellent singer; she was an aspiring singer and Elvis’s girlfriend; ahead of her time and assertive, she’s a great singer with a wide range; sings solos and back-up throughout the show; sings “Fever” in her alto range and covers the high soprano part of “Riders In The Sky” (Johnny Cash song); for the auditions, actors will be asked to prepare a song from the era; in the production, Dyanne sings “Fever” and “I Hear You Knockin’.”

Montrellous- 40’s-late 50’s. Mindful. Served many years in prison. Interested in healing. Kind. Working class. Sensitive and caring, particularly to the younger generation. Uses cooking as a means of meditation. Funny.

Rafael- Mid-late 20’s. Latinx. Formerly incarcerated. A romantic. Loves food. In love with Letitia. Funny. Fun. Playful. Recovering. Working to find a more spiritual path. Full of charm. Terrified of his boss. Has great comedic timing.

Letitia- Mid-late 20’s. Black. Recently released from prison, she is trying to build her life up again. Mother to a daughter with health issues, her job is important to her even when the atmosphere is toxic. A romantic, she is looking to find a genuine partner. She is a survivor and has life skills. She is working towards building a mindful path. Very funny. Has great comedic timing.

Clifford Bradshaw: Male, 20s-30s, a budding American and somewhat closeted homosexual novelist searching Europe for inspiration for his next novel. Upon reaching Berlin he quickly gets entangled with its underground party scene and political climate. - Tenor

Sally Bowles: Female, 20s-30s, a transient English second rate cabaret singer living in Berlin. She entangles herself with Clifford and they begin a fated relationship – Mezzo

Fraulein Schneider: Female, 50s-60s, the owner of a boarding house in Berlin. She rents rooms to several of the show’s characters. - Alto

Herr Schultz: Male, 50s-60s, A Jewish fruit-stand owner and the love interest of Fraulein Schneider – Tenor

Fraulein Kost: Female, 20s-30s, a prostitute living and working in Fraulein Schneider’s boarding house and often at odds with Schneider. - Mezzo
