Breakdown
Richard Hannay: Our leading man. Tall, handsome, witty and resourceful. Wrongly suspected of murder, Richard Hannay flees his flat in London and embarks on the chase of a lifetime. Actor must have impeccable English dialect and masterful acting, comedic, and physical skills.
Annabella Schmidt/Pamela/Margaret: Actor plays the three women with whom Hannay becomes romantically tangled. German, Scottish, and English dialects required. Actor should be able to play the sensuality and high style of the Hitchcock/film noir variety. Think Kim Novak, Grace Kelly, Janet Leigh.
Clown/Man #1 & Clown/Man #2: These two actors play all the other roles in the play. Actors must have a mastery of various English and Scottish dialects. These are clowns in the European/English Music Hall/Vaudeville tradition of physical clowning. The roles demand physical strength, vocal and physical transformation and delineation, stamina, and tremendous character work.
