BREAKDOWN
AN OLD-FASHIONED FAMILY MURDER
SYNOPSIS: On a dark and stormy night - Egads! - there’s been a murder at the Claythorne estate. The family all have alibis but someone is lying. When a (junior) detective arrives on the scene, it’s clear that everyone is a suspect. Between jealous sisters, a dim fiancé, a pompous author, and a sharp-eyed widow, motives abound and the culprit could be anyone. Murder’s a family affair in this clever, laugh-out-loud whodunnit parody.
SEEKING:
- MRS. SHIRLEY PECK - (CAST) she/her; over 50; Sweet and unassuming and relentlessly underestimated.
- DETECTIVE PAUL PECK - he/him; 30s-40s; Shirley’s devoted son. An earnest yet rather unsuccessful detective.
- ARTHUR WHITTINGTON - he/him; 40s-50s; A world-renowned writer of murder mysteries. Also, a proud snob. He speaks with a very affected English accent, though he’s probably from Missouri.
- CLARICE CLAYTHORNE - she/her; 20s-30s; Dazzling and glamorous, sharp-witted and sly. She wouldn’t be out of place in a film noir.
- DOTTY CLAYTHORNE - she/her; 20s-early 30s; Modest and soft-spoken, excited only by murder mysteries. Though young, she dresses like a Victorian widow.
- JASPER JAMISON - he/him; 20s-30s; Clarice’s fiancé. Handsome and dim, he looks fantastic in a swimsuit.
